I see many people saying their insurance covers knee braces or atleast some of the cost. I am in the market for a pair, but would like to see if my insurance would cover them. How do I go about this? Do I need a doctor to recommend them to my insurance company or is it something I take care of on my own?

I think your doctor has to prescribe them, and for it to benefit you, you'll need to have an insurance policy that covers the cost. If you have a high deductible plan coupled with an HSA, you might be able to buy them with your own pretax money, which is not a bad deal.

I bought my knee braces and neck braces with FSA $ the last year before OTC stuff (like aspirin, first aid kits, band aids, etc.) was removed from the eligibility list of FSA items by Obamacare changes.

Find a cool doctor. I got a prescription for them but my insurance would only pay 50% so i never got them.. Ended up having three knee surgeries almost a year to the day later... Everyones insurance is different but getting an Orthopedic doctor to right a prescription is the first step.

started complaining of knee pain to my doctor. From there it went to a specialist, who referred me to a ortho doc who got me my CTI's.

Didn't pay a thing other than my copays.

Always worth a shot and like someone mentioned a flex spending account or HSA could be another route. Preventive care is worth its weight in gold.

I tore an mcl and asked my doctor about a prescription for ctiis and he gave one to me without hesitation. Awesome braces had them for about 5 years and have held up great. Makes you feel 10x safer.

My doc wrote my a script for braces as well after acl reconstruction but after copays and deductibles it was still cheaper to buy a pair of Troy Lee Designs Catalyst braces. I went that route but haven't rode since surgery to try them out.

My insurance plan pays 90% of medical equipment. Knee braces are considered medical equipment. Need a sports medicine or ortho to write the script.

Podmx can be prescribed. If you call fox they'll give you the prescription information that your doctor needs to write, take it to the doc and once written you submit it to your insurance and will be reimbursed.

Pods cost me $50.
