Alright so Im going to pick up a 2nd bike to add to the stable and can't make up my mind which bike but narrowed it down to 3 choices. Some background on me, Im 5'10 155lbs, Vet C rider (only been riding for 3 years), started out on 4 strokes and purchased a new YZ125 last fall, needless to say I feel in love with it which has put me on the 2 stroke kick/band wagon. Below are my choices and pros/cons. Would love everyone's input and help deciding.

2016 KTM 150SX
I have always wanted to try another brand, and absolutely love the looks and reviews of the 150. My concern is the suspension which I've heard is either ok on the 2 strokes or terrible from others, regardless I always have my suspension done by FC but still they can only do so much and after only riding SSS stuff on yamaha's worried I might not jive with the bike, but would be a nice change in options too on a ride day. There are a lot of cool things I like about the KTM design and I absolutely love my 125 which is why I think this would be a great addition as well.

2016 YZ250
Being a yamaha guy all my life I love the idea of having another 2 stroke to step into/progress into riding. A lot of parts are interchangeable with my YZ125 and of course its a reliable 2 stroke and can have forever. My biggest concern is being a newb rider is the 250 too much to handle/or get myself in trouble with. I know wood's guys love it but its a beast on the track which is where I do most my riding. I love the idea its lighter than a 250F but still concerned if it will sit as it may be too much for me.

2016 YZ250F
I had a 2014 and 15 of this bike, loved it, but this was before I fell even more in love with my 125. My concern with this bike is longevity, we all know 4 strokes only last so long before they start to cost a good chunk of change, Im a decent wrencher but apprehensive about working on this bike outside of a top end. Being that I've owned it before I jive well with the bike and am comfortable on it, just not as thrilling as my 125 was which is why I sold the 250F last fall and sort of miss/regret not keeping it, but it did ultimately sit more often as I enjoyed my smoker more, but could be a nice switch for ride days.

I am ready for a new bike as well. My suggestion wait for the new 250sx (that's my plan). I think a 125 and 150 are similar. Get something different. I can't wait to see this new 250sx.

You are a vet C rider, no bike is going to make you any faster or any slower. Buy whatever you can get the cheapest.

Ouch. Just wanted something for variety and change every once in awhile. Thanks though for the shut down.

Wait for the '17 250sx, or just get an 08 or newer yz250 until then.

How about a 2016 KTM 250SX-F? Best of both worlds. Something orange in the new styling and a four stroke. I have one of each right now (two and a four stroke) and they both get used regularly depending on the place I am riding. If you are going to own two bikes, own two different ones Wink

I'd be all over that KTM 150, but you already have a 125 so it would be sort of pointless to have two that close in size.

Hell, buy 2 YZ250's. One eligible for Evo/Vintage and a modern/low hour.

Keep adding to the collection.

Not what i meant to slam you. I am a old slow vet rider also. Sometimes you have to realize all the bikes are above your ability to ride them anywhere close to their potential.

I'd go with the YZ 250. Its super light, very powerfull yet has good lowend torque, has excellent overall handling and that awesome YZ 250 suspension. I had a fully decked out KX 250 and tamed it down with a sthealy 11oz fww. They work as advertised.

No worries dude. I know I'm never gonna be the top of my vet class or reaching the potential on any bike. For me I just want to make a smart choice for another bike in the stable. I love all 3 but still gotta pick just one. Biggest hang ups are listed, suspension on KTM, too much power with the 250 smoker for a guy like me, overall maintenance and cost of ownership on the 250F.

Dude if you like the YZ 125, you'll love the KTM 150. It's like burning happiness.

Here's my .02 I have had two ktm 250sx and had a 2011 yz250. I liked the yz and it is a great bike but I felt more comfortable on the '14 ktm250sx. That just means that you should buy what YOU are comfortable on. I think they are all great bikes. I am personally waiting to see what the '17 KTM looks like because one will be in my garage next year. If you are into two strokes I wouldn't consider a 250f, but the power of the 250f falls between a 125 and yz250 2t so I'd just go with the yz250 if yamahas feel good for You.
I would also not let people scare you away from the ktm suspension. I'm also a vet and with a few tweaks from a good tuner my stuff is just as good as my 2011 YZ SSS. Don't let the suspension be the end all be all of your decision.

It sounds like you have what you already want and love in the garage ..the YZ125.

You are worried about KTM forks..you have better SSS, you are worried about the bigger hit of the Yamaha 250, you have the 125 which you have already said you love, you are worried about four stroke maintenance and costs which should totally rule one out then since you already own the easier to work on, less cost to run two stroke.

By deduction it seems to me you don't need another bike at this point in time.

Thanks, I agree. When I think about what would bring the biggest smile when I look in the garage I think the KTM, from a standpoint of what makes sense the 250f is a better option, from a 2 stroke upgrade the 250 makes sense too. But like someone else said I love the 125, I think the 150 would be a great change too every once and awhile to switch it up.

Totally agree, I plan on keeping my beloved 125. I would just like to have an extra bike in the garage as I've always dreamed of having more than one and some variety. But do I NEED a new bike, no, just would be nice while Im young and don't have kids, etc. and can afford it and am healthy enough to ride it.

I can appreciate that thought process. Do yourself a favour though. Regardless of what happens down the road with family etc, ALWAYS keep at least one bike in the garage. Remember this most important rule.
Now you know what you need to do this week then. Drive on down to that KTM dealer and snag one of those sexy 150SX's, and then come back here and post pics so we can drool Wink

Im thinking thats the best fit to be honest. And agree. I sold my 250F a month after owning my 125 and regretted it later, sure the 125 fits me better and the 250f sat most the time, but having 2 in the garage and the ability to always be riding, etc just felt so great. And agree 100% there was a point after my last injury (ruptured spleen, fractured ribs) where everyone told me to hang it up and I almost, almost seriously gave it all up, but for what to go to the mall on weekends, not my life. Cheers and will do!

I'm not sure the KTM 150 would give you that much more of a differing experience.
The yz250 (I own one) has more power then your 125, but that comes at a cost. You'll find it to be big, heavy and not half as nimble as your 125 2 stroke, especially at your size (I'm of a similar size).
The yz250 is tall and not the best cornering 250 I've owned, my old kx250 would turn much better for me.

Thank you for your opinion on the 250. Answered my questions right there.
