Help! Heading to Budds Creek. Spectating advice needed.

Edited Date/Time 7/9/2014 5:52pm
Got my tickets and All Day Pit Passes to Budds Creek. Got a few questions regarding schedules/maps/spectating.

I want to arrive early. I have a hotel 15 minutes from event. What time can you actually get into the facility? I know they say Pits open at 9 but I got there at 9 last year and there was tons of people already there and actually the tickets to the JS7 signings were already gone. Want to arrive early and take in whole amazing day. I live and breathe MX but due to my band schedules I have only been the last 4 years. Absolutely love the events though.

Does anyone have a time schedule for Budds Creek? Would the one GuyB posts for each event (like say for Red Bud) be the same exact schedule as far as practice times, signings, etc?

I usually sit under the trees by the fence between the holeshot line and the first big step up. Do you guys consider that a good vantage point? Where do you recommend? I like to be somewhat close as even with contacts I only see about 20/40 to 20/60 so far away distances aren't too good for me.

Can anyone link me to a facility map like GuyB posts the morning of each race? Would love to get the general layout. I've been a few years now but never had a full map on morning of event. And he releases them early race morning so won't have access to print one then.

I just want to be as prepared as possible. If anyone can help would this I would appreciate it. I've got my binoculars, my radio and ear buds, sunscreen. Looking for some advice from the people who attends these events a lot as to making my day the best it can be.

Can't wait!!! Wish Herlings was at THIS event. Anyway, go JS7. And thanks for any advice and assistance.

Best thing I have learned is how far the walk from M.I.R to the track is when your carrying stuff. I advise you to bring $20 get there early and pay to park at the house directly across the road from the gate. Short walk and you will be able to escape easier when it's over.

Definitely pay to park at one of the houses directly across from the entrance. Where you sit is a good spot, but I also like to go to the other side for variety, or just walk around the inside. The off camber before the big downhill jump is good, Henry Hill gets chewed up at the bottom and is good. Pretty hard to find a truly bad spot there.

I got the Holiday Inn at King George but they were nearing no vacancy and I booked mine 2 months ago. They said they had one company book nearly the whole hotel. Figured it must have been media crews or something.

Thanks for the parking tip.

Yeah, the spot under the trees, by the speaker between the holeshot line and first large step up after first turn is pretty cool but wasn't sure if there was a spot to view more of track without being so far away.

Any other tips would be appreciated as I prepare for an awesome weekend.

Pay the $ for a parking spot right near the track off Budds Creek Road. Much closer walk, worth it.
Get there before practice. Under the trees at the far south end is a good spot to watch.
Track was great today. It will be hot. Bring lots of beer (they don't sell there) and water

For parking, Is that the place across the road from the main entrance?
Yes at a residence. Get there early or it's filled up.

spectating on the hill opposite from Henry Hill is stellar

Peelout or anyone...does anyone have a track map pinpointing exactly where you are referring to?

Also, is the practice schedules that GuyB posts the same for all east coast events?

Peel is talking about the big hill across the track from the announcing tower. It's hot out there though, with limited shade..

You can see a lot of the track if you stand in the middle by the lake and walk back and forth down the hill and back to the lake. It's about thirty steps. You can follow the pack because you don't want to miss Henry Hill. The area around Henry Hill is good too if you want shade.

Plan for lots and lots of sun because shade can be hard to come by. And lots of walking. Always plenty of parking across the highway from Budds along the road to the North.

If you've watched any of the previous years races. I concur with Peely.

Being a local I always sit on the hillside of the downhill triple (right before the 2 tabletops at the bottom of the track). It opposite of Henry hill to the right of the old scoring tower. You can see pretty much 90% of the track. Only downside is you can't see the start/finish line area.

I recommend you get there between 7-8 AM if you plan to do it right. Parking across the road in the neighbors yard isn't to bad. Like others have said you can get in and out over there pretty quick and it's a much shorter walk. You will do tons of walking and it's always humid this time of year. Also getting there early gets you the prime seating under the very limited shaded areas.
Years ago Jon Beasley took out a good number of trees heavily shading back portion of the track. A lot of it was in prep for the MXdN. Regardless everyone wants shade so the earlier the better.

Thanks, man. Keep the tips for Nationals and Budds Creek coming, guys.
Not so much a track tip, but the bridge from MD to VA has a $3.00 toll. You only pay the toll going from MD to VA though, so don't spend your last $3.00 on beer.

Lol. That's a good tip. Not a drinker but nonetheless, a great tip.

I will get there early ...between 7-8...but I enjoy spending a lot of time in the pits. Meeting riders, checking out the beautiful machines. That's one of my favorite parts of the day. But I do want to be able to see some of the practices as well as have a decent seating area for the race. That's what I struggle with. Knowing when to leave pits. But its all good. Going to be a great day.

We are coming down for Budds. Last year we stayed in Waldorf, but I waited until the last minute and the decent hotels are all booked up. Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with Prince Frederick area hotels? Primarily the Holiday Inn Express.

Do any of you listen to the simulcast on FM radio as well as thru the PA? If so, what do you suggest? A normal transistor radio and ear buds? I def want to do this as I really enjoy the commentary rolling with the live action and it is sometimes hard to hear. Figure plug one bud in and have one ear without.
