Has anyone replaced tech 7, tech 10 soles themselves?

I have a pair of alpinestars tech 7 boots. The left sole has worn through after 20hrs of use, I went back to the shop I bought them from (in Sweden) and asked if they knew anywhere in could get them replaced.
They didn't know of any specialised place. But they have a place in Belgium that they send FOX boots.

They told me to contact alpinestars, so I emailed them, just asking for information. They told me to contact the Swedish distributor, who told me to go to the place of purchase. That was one nice big circle.
So now I'm thinking about doing the job myself. I have seen the Australian distributors for alpinestars bought a special machine for sole replacement, and there are a few companies in the US can replace them. Just wondering if anyone has done it themselves? How did it turn out? Tips?

Replaced mine with Gaerne's. Alpinestar has a good boot but the durability is garbage.

I think there has been an ad in the back of MXA for boot sole repair. I'll look it up when I get home if someone doesn't beat me to it.

I appreciate the response. But like I said I'm in Europe, so posting them to the states would be pretty expensive.

I'm not sure how you would fit a Gaerne sole to a moulded alpinestars boot Wink Obviously you could do it with the tech 8.

I've asked every person I've seen at the track for the last few months. who replaces their soles? and I'm yet to get an answer. Seems everyone throws their boots out when the soles are done here in Sweden.

For tech 8's I bought soles and had a shoe cobbler replace them. They lasted a couple rides and started to come apart again. So, I bought some Shoe Goo and put a rag around to protect the boot then wrapped duct tape as tight as I could. Let it dry a day or so. Works great for a couple of rides then repeat.

At that point in time, you need new boots

P.S. I didn't know people still wore tech 7s, lol

I'm shocked that there is nobody that you can ship them to closer to you that can resole them. Astars USA does it here and I would sure think they would have something nearish you that can also service them.

If it is just the inserts in the picture that need replacing they are not too hard to do. They distributors in Australia don't import the glue, only the inserts so I had to use shoe goo. There look a tiny bit rough but have shown no signs of coming apart at all.

I meant ditch those for a pair of Gaerne's.

Just curious what pegs you're running? I've put 60 hours on a set of tech 7's and barely showed any wear. I'm not using stock pegs but they are ti raptors or anything crazy. That just seems like a whole lot of wear for 20 hours.

I would love a set of gearne sg12's, but retail for them in sweden is equivalent to $700 usd. I know I could get them a bit cheaper, but that is still a huge chunk of change.

I'm using standard pegs on a RMZ450, that are a bit worn. I got the boots when I got the bike, so I know the hours on the bike and boots. I have a new pair of titanium pegs that I'm hesitant to put on now.

Getting rid of a pair of $400 boots after 20hrs use because the soles are worn is not in my nature. I like the tech 7, it's very lightweight, doesn't get cought on anything easily. They are not quite as supportive as other boots, but the lightweight reduces stress on my knees.

In my area most of Alpinestars riders buy new, use and if soles starting getting worse, they sell it at fraction of the price.
And buy new one ....
You can change soles, but it's never going to be like from the factory. Like i say Mission Impossible.
Here in Czech republic we have good prices for new boots, im glad i can help you.
SG12 430-490 eur, Tech10 - about 500 eur, SIDI SRS2 about 380 eur without shipping.
If you are interested, let me know.

Done a few of my own pairs (tech 10s), my advise DONT bother doing just the insert section, you can buy the whole sole for a bit more and you get a much nicer fit. Plenty of heat and the whole sole peels off, bit of a workout but its not difficult. The plenty of contact adhesive and fit the new sole.

When I done mine I put the black and white soles on the all black boots a year or two before alpinestars started doing the same.

Thanks for the tips, it gives me hope that a couple of you have done them yourself. I think I will give it a go.

David934 thanks for the offer, but I just bought a set of TCX boots with the Michelin sole at a closing down sale, I'm not to keen on the colour, but for €200 I can live with it.

I will probably start a new thread in 6 months asking how to replace these soles. Haha

I got these tech 7's a few months back and I've put 13.2 riding hours on them. I didn't expect these to blow out so quickly. Wondering if it's worth taking back to dealership, maybe contacting alpinestars or just getting a pair of tech 10's.

I have no idea why guys keep buying these garbage boots. Gaerne soles are absolutely bullet proof even on their cheaper models. And they are also easy to replace, although I don't know anyone who has had to. I've had 6 or 7 pairs over the last 15 yrs and never came close to needing a replacement. Those A-stars could be the most comfortable thing in the world but they are disposable.

How in the world did you put that much wear on them in 13 hours?? I’ve put nearly 100 hours in tech 7’s before and they don’t look anything like that.

I did just switch to tech 10’s but only have like 4 hours on them so far so I can’t tell you if they will be more durable as you almost can’t tell I’ve ridden in them as far as the soles go.

Shredded my pair of Tech 7's in under 20 hours with stock pegs. Waste of money to resole them. Hell, once this tube of shoegoo is gone...it's on to Crossfires. I am amazed by the hours claimed by some on these boots. I have yet to find a boot that falls apart faster. They are decently comfy though.

This is a pair I put about 60 hours on before I sold them. I do hare scrambles and very little moto these days but not sure how much of a difference that makes in wear though.

Because tech 10s are the best protection available.

Ive got probably 75 hours on a pair of tech 10s. The left sole is chewed up badly and right is almost fine. Guess reaching/pivoting for the shifter takes a toll.

Send them to Alpinestars Europe. The soles will be replaced.
Check the website.
PM me if you can't get anywhere.
