Josh Hansen to Race at Inaugural Monster Energy Cup

AURORA, Ill. (July 20, 2011) – Feld Motor Sports® announced today that Josh Hansen, of Elbert, Colo., will race at the inaugural Monster Energy Cup on October 15 at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium.

The accomplished 27-year old Supercross Lites class rider has competed in seven Lites class and two Supercross class seasons. Throughout his journey in both the Eastern and Western Lites class divisions, Hansen has earned seven race wins, eight podium finishes, and 21 top-10 finishes. Hansen’s career-best overall finish of second was in 2005, where he fell shy of the championship by way of tiebreaker.

Supercross icons Ricky Carmichael and Jeremy McGrath have been commissioned to design the track, and Hansen looks forward to the design.

“It’s better when riders design the tracks,” said Hansen. “I’m really excited to try something new. It’s going to be a lot different than just designing a supercross track because now they have to add the outdoor sections too. We’ll see how it all looks soon enough.”

In 2011, Hansen closed out his Lites class season third overall, which was compliments of three wins, two podium finishes, and an additional three top-10 finishes. With plenty of seat time and consistent finishes to his credit, Hansen will be a tough rider to get by when the gates drop for the inaugural Monster Energy Cup race.

“The one-class format will be good in some ways, because the 250 guys can show that they can be just as fast as the big bikes,” explains Hansen. “Depending on the track design, things could get really interesting.”

The unique Monster Energy Cup hybrid track will consist of supercross/motocross terrain and will have a tremendous motocross-style influence, making it unlike any other stadium race in the world. This track will be the perfect blend of supercross and motocross combined and created into the ultimate battleground. The Monster Energy Cup posts a $250,000 purse with the winner walking away with a $100,000 check, and for the “first time ever” $1 Million will be paid to a rider that wins all three main events.

Tickets for the 2011 Monster Energy Cup can be purchased at the Thomas & Mack Center Box Office, UNLVtickets outlets, online at www.UNLVtickets.com , www.MonsterEnergyCup.com ,  or by phone at (702) 739-FANS. Tickets will be available at the Sam Boyd Stadium Box Office on the day of the event only.

It was a wet, sand and full speed track and he had bad luck in the first heat he rode and the two other heats the dutch guys where feeling better on the sand on the other hand I also heard that Hansen had a very good time partying a bit, drinking a bit (not much), giving interviews and stuff so maybe that wasn't a good influence on his results.

A DNF in the first moto when he had a flat and the tire came off the rim, and a 6th in the other two motos for a 13th overall. No matter what you "heard", these are pretty good results for Josh.
