Shouldn't they be getting rid of the street-bike start? Pretty sure ama pro does not use something that is not dirt for a dirt bike race.
Oh and by the way, the rest of so cal should get rid of their tire-wasting man-made not-dirt stuff too. Nothing about a cement start says motocross to me. Such a waste.

They probably due it because the ruts would require too much maintenance. I agree though for a pro national cement isn't cutting it.

There are no cement starts in the Nationals. They will start in front of the current gate on the dirt.

They do it to help the moto community, no need to buy and install hole-shot devices.

The concrete pad won't be used for the National. It's used the rest of the year because maintenance is so much easier, you don't have 30 bikes digging a 4 foot long trench 30 times a day.

Cement starts are actually a much more even starting procedure. There are no unfair gates with shitty ruts from the moto before., everyone has an equal chance. A few years back the AMA said they all had to be cement. then a few years later they say they all need to be dirt, what a bunch of ass clowns.

How do you figure it's better? You are still not allowed to touch the dirt in front of the gate but allowed to do whatever you want behind where your bike sits ie: smoothing, packing etc. Shitty rut in front of cement or dirt is still a shitty rut.

There should be both. Starting on concrete is a talent of its own.

Even launch. True, you can't control what's beyond the gate......but at least it's a fair shake it you have better reaction then the guy next to you. IMO.

Cement starts make it easier to avoid the rut, or at least make it less important, imo

Cement starts make it easier and more consistent, i dont like it but I agree with it because our sport needs some level of consistency, the starts determine too muhc and removing that variable is okay I think

Im not a big fan of concrete starts. The only upside i see is the track can save a little money.

Concrete is for road bikes. Dirt is for dirtbikes.

Tires cost to much to be knocking the edge off on concrete.

I never seen a concrete start until I moved to Arizona. Stupid if you ask me, but our tracks are shit for the most part anyway.

Concrete is the only way everyone gets the same conditions,I don't get the logic of not being able to use it.

Are you guys on a fishing expedition with your "fair and same condition" statements lol?

Concrete starts aren't all that bad. But some are horrendous.

At pleasure valley in PA their start has a nasty broom finish that allows your tires to actually get some bite. AT other tracks I've been to it's like starting on a sheet of ice and you gotta stay back behind the pegs ease off the gate and time the throttle crack on concrete-to-dirt entry precisely.

I'd still prefer dirt over broom finish rough concrete any day.

It's not, other than the gate at GH currently has a concrete pad. Looks like some people were wondering how it would work for the National.

If they added some ridges to the concrete pads instead of just leaving it dead flat nobody would complain about concrete starts.

No. Concrete sucks. Moto and concrete, are you serious? If you argue against that, you have no business in moto. I love street bikes, but don't try to add any dirt on a street course, get it? Supermoto, I get it, we ain't talking bout that.

I think it adds a challenge. It's good to have a couple tracks that have them.
