Gear choices in 2013. Is it 1993 again?

While there are still some good choices out there the majority of the gear available now reminds me of the garish gear of the early 90s. Is it just me or does anyone else think a lot of the gear is butt ugly?

I don't know, there are some gear combos that I like and some that I think are atrocious. I guess there is probably more that I don't like than the combos that I do. I think it was Jody Weisel from MXA that said, "what other sport can you dress like a clown and be cool for doing it?".

I miss the symmetrical, clean looking stuff from around 2007.
This was my favorite gear ever.

I agree with the OP....Klim gear is right up my alley in terms of look. The mainstream stuff is way to "out there" for me. But I'm getting old....so take my opinion with a grain of salt. Smile

As long as the black/charcoal no contrast crap and earth tone shit from early 2000's never comes back I'm good.

As far as I'm concerned the last couple years has seen the best looking gear in at least a decade.

Do you even like this sport anymore, or do you just have nothing better to do?

Stiffie was the bees knees in the 90's. I was going to sell my old pants but they fit my girlfriend. I cut her face off because you guys know how to use photo shop.

That TLD teethy mouth jersey to our right in the ad looks ridiculous.

That being said, if AXO just fired up the presses and remanufactured all there Damon Bradshaw/Jeff Stanton stuff from the early 90's Id be cool with that.

I wear T L D & it looks better than ever to me.

Red

White

Blue

And I even wear the MC/DC TLD "Starter-Kit" 'cause it matches one of my helmets & looks good on camera...Rip to Cabo Day 2...opening scene...

X2 on both counts. I love the AXO stuff, miss it. The new TLD stuff looks like the Japanese created a godzilla theme for MX gear. (Sorry Manny). If the TLD stuff is high quality, it is a shame because the designs either look like a clown suit the past few years, or now the godzilla (aaaaaarrrrrr!!!) look.

AXO, I always loved their gear. They always knew what was up. Their still around right? I know I saw some one some European sites last year. But the old school stuff was always so sikk. It will never get old!

I think if you look hard enough, you can find a style and color palette to suit just about any taste.

AXO was amazing back in the 90's !

And Sinisalo also had some nice gear back then. Remember McGrath's gear in 93 and 94.

I hated the gear from around 05 until '11. Now I like most of it.

Never been a fan of fluor, seems High street fashion these days they look like a construction worker to me
Troy Lee does a great job, quality gear for an outstanding price they offer from clown to plain and everything in between

What bothers me even more are those mega large brand logos, only wear logos of sponsors

my current ultra plain combo

You'd look like a waiter in that plain white/black combo!

Totally love the fluoro camo sharky looking kit. Just bought it and rode first time in it last sunday. Its incredibly bright, no-one's going to miss you + its incredibly ventilated which is what you need at the moment.

I use the exact same gear choices I used in the 90's. 13/49 on the 125 and 14/50 on the 250!

I really like MSR gear. They seemed to have stayed away from the "clown look" for the most part and the quality of their stuff is great. I get killer deals from them and usually get 5 or so sets a year and have never had any problems with quality whatsoever.
