Gajser ... Really?

Edited Date/Time 3/1/2016 1:43pm
No disrespect, but I didn't think he was that good in MX2 last year; I thought Jonas was going to win. And neither of them was anywhere close to Herlings, of course.

So Gajser blitzes the MXGP field on his first try. Did anyone see this coming? And why didn't you pipe up?

Sometimes a guy gets on a 450 and rides it waaaaay better than a 250.

Davalos is like that.

Yes as he has been practicing on a 450 already while racing the 250, and he seems better suited to it.

Amazing ride for sure.

I know that Qatar can be a poor indicator of the direction the season will take, but ... shit ... that guy had it going on.

Wasn't Febreve good but not great on 250's the year before last? Then moved up and won the title.

Seems to be the trend in MXGP.

I was thinking that too. Looked good on a 250; looks like a freaking rocket on a 450.

if you watch the interview at the end of the race he says he was still in school last year.

In his post race interview he commented that this is the 1st year he's been able to have a compete training program...

Because he finally finished school. As in "Education".

Nice.

Incredible. He looked so smooth and confident, not to mention plain fast.

Tg was going to be fast because he flat out ripped on the 250. I was a little surprised he beat the field like that but not to much. The race he was at about a month or so ago...he was hauling there too.

The guy is the real deal. Going to be a good season in MXGP!!

That just proves even more that he did the right thing. He won the feeder class aka MX2 and joined the big boys. Way to go!

He was riding his dad's 450 in our national championship when he was originally still in the 85 class, I think he was 14 years old. He hauls ass and will win more.

"Did anyone see this coming?"

I was quite optimistic for Gajser "for me the great dark horse will be Gajser" here, but not that much. Then mainly, his italian championship results cooled down me a bit.

He really didn't get a chance to show his 450 speed at the MXDN, and of course he's had a bit of practice since then. Still, despite the potential being there I don't think many people saw this result coming. Be interesting to see how he'll factor into the title this year.

Honestly, I haven't followed the GP's but it is starting to interest me more. As someone rather new to this series, to me Gajser seemed to have more of an american riding style and the track look liked it favored that. Also, he reminds me of Tomac when he was on a honda. Even has the same rookie number as Tomac!

Febvre won the championship after Cairoli, Nagl and Desalle were out.

Good for you to call that upfront. I didnt expect this at all, a few months ago i wrote something along the lines of a Coldenhoff like season for Gasjer.

He drove great, and i'm hoping it's not a fluke but he can keep this pace. If he can imo we'll have a 3-way fight between him, febvre and Cairoli (once he is fit) for the title, much better then last year.

In his post race interview, he wasn't even breathing hard one bit. He's in very good shape and smooth on a bike.

I am fully aware of that. Villopoto too. Febvre still looked great in the second half last year, especially at the USGP and the MXoN. For that matter, he looked very good at Losail over the weekend.

Btw does anyone know what happened to his AMA plans?
Summer last year he was planning to be at A1 in the lites class before because he planned to go to the states in 2017.
Back then he probably didn't think he would win the MX2 title and thought he would be in MX2 in 2016.
Is he still planning on going over there fulltime one day?

This is where Tim blew by his HRC teammate.

Honda finally said NO to his USA trip in the Lites category.

I liked him since his rookie year, you could tell he was special and everyone in the "know" said that Honda last year was no rocket and he still won the class where having the most power makes a big difference.

That's why he didn't want to stay in MX2 (the bike).

TG 243 looked the part but i think he crashed a lot last year , hope the 450 smooths him out.
MN 12 didn't repeat last year but he came up to only 14 secs off the lead. given some more laps I think he could have really been top 3
