After about 6 5/6 years I'm just about ready to retire my old sg10's, I'm in the market fir some of these http://www.btosports.com/p/GAERNE10SG12

My sg10's are 9 and 1/2 us size.

Bto sports don't have any 10's left, but I can go elsewhere (suggestions?)

Will 9's fit okay? Not sure what the difference a half a size makes.

Excellent thanks, yeah probably better off wearing thick socks and going the 10. I just hope they're not too much bigger than 9.5's

To be honest with you guys my SG12's are killer boots. The only complaint I had was the toe box is very tall. Moving the shifter up a tooth was perfect. As for fit, I wear a size 13 shoe and the boot fit true to size. I don't wear riding socks but rather Nike drifit socks that I wear with normal tennis shoes. The padding inside the boots is amazing and I have never had my feet get cold. Even motos in the low 20's my feet were toasty warm.

Gaerne's run slightly big so I would go a 1/2 size smaller if you are a 9.5.

First thing, I don't think there is such a thing as a size 9.5 in the SG-10's. They only come in whole sizes as far as I know. I suspect something is getting lost in the AUS-US translation here.

Second, the SG-12's are definitely more snug than the 10's and do not run big. They made the toe box smaller and slimmer on the 12's than the 10's. I have 10's and 12's both in size 9 and the 12's are definitely more snug in the front. I especially notice it because I have a wide foot.

The sg-12's do not run big at all. I wear size 13 for shoes/boots and the past 4 years have always worn size 12 in Alpinestars. When I decided to give the SG-12 a shot, I tried a pair of my friends size 12, and the toebox area was too tight. I ended up going with size 13 in the SG-12 and the fit is just right. I would say the fit is true to size. If you are a 9 1/2 I would go with a size 10 SG-12 to be safe. Luckily with a size that common you should be able to find a pair to try on first.

We have a pretty good deal on them also:

http://www.atomic-moto.com/Gaerne-SG-12-Boots_p_352.html

For sizing, the reason some say they run large, is because of the CONVERSION, not the actual fit. Example, on many sport shoes, hiking shoes, etc shoes a size 12 is a 46. On Gaernes, an 11 is a size 46 and a 12 is a 47.

The trick to sizing them is NOT to reference other moto boots. Instead, take an average of the EU size of 2 - 3 pair of your casual, athletic, or hiking shoes, then cross against the Gaerne EU size, as follows:

42 = US 8
43 = US 9
44.5 = US 10
46 = US 11
47 = US 12
48 = US 13

If you are a little under, you'll need an aftermarket insole. They take up some of the space in the foot chamber, effectively reducing the size a bit. Makes a huge, huge improvement in the fit (cannot overstate this). You''ll probably want a thicker one for hiking boots.

FWIW I have worked with boots and cycling shoes fit in the past. As long as the person gets a good average of their size, this method usually works well.

BTW, different people like different boots, but Gaerne's fit is by far the best for the largest cross section of riders IMO.

I never noticed the tall toe box. I also bought my boots true to size.

I just bought a pair of the red and white SG12s.I typically wear a size 11.5 in Nike tennis shoes etc. I ordered a size 12 in the Gaerne SG12s and they were big on my foot. If you want them to fit snug I would go with the 9 and after break-in they should fit perfect. These boots are definitely run a little larger. Even the rep at Gaerne had warned me of this. Where ever you decide to order I would be sure you can return them for a larger/smaller size because these boots fit differently

For me.....my Tech 8's are size 11 and I wear two pairs of moto socks to make them feel snug. ( I can't wear the bootie insert )

The SG12's I wore a couple weeks ago were size 11 also......but I only needed 1 pair of socks. Two pairs would of been to tight.

BTW......that's weird you guys mention the true to size thing. My regular walk around shoes are 10's.......but the SG10's I wore were size 11 and fit exactly like my shoes.

I bought a set for a christmas present to myself.. I wear a 14 in street shoes and went with a 13 in SG12's. They feel great walking around in them but it's winter up here and haven't been able to ride in them yet. I wore a size 14 Tech 6 and size 15 Tech 8 because of the bootie so these definitely run a little bigger than Alpinestars.

Once again,we have found that crossing against your US size is inconsistent, and instead to cross against the EU size of your street shoes.

42 = US 8
43 = US 9
44.5 = US 10
46 = US 11
47 = US 12
48 = US 13

Hi Tobz.

Yes, a size 10, which is a 44.5. Or rather, since Gaerne thinks in EU sizes more than US, a 44.5, which is roughly a 10.

FWIW, the next size up is a 46, which will be a huge jump up. In most casual shoes, a 46 is an 11.5 or even a 12.

What he said, they run big. Same was true for sg10's. Half size smaller for sure.

This is a very old thread. So my apologies for reviving it.
I just ordered a sg10 in 12... Confused over the sizing.
My foot is 11 inches length. Online shoe conversion charts put me at 11.5 US. I wear an icon 11.5 US as well.
Plus the gaerne website also places euro 45 in the range of 11.5-12 US...
Anyway hoping it isn't too big. Had it shipped to another country (Pakistan) so sending it back would cost alot Sad

If you need a size 10, Ill make you a deal on some SG11's that are black. They can be seen on www.usedmxboots.com.

FYI - Astar/Gaerne/Fox do not make half sizes. The only brand that makes half sizes is Sidi and some half sizes they do not even offer.

I wear a size 11 tennis shoe and the other day I tried on a new pair of SG-12's size 11 with a thin pair of socks. Perfect fit. So I'd have to say true to fit also.

Yup!

Really BIG on SG 10s and a little bit big on the NEW 12s...

Just about to pull the trigger on some new SG12's. I am size 12 in normal shoes. My foot with a riding sock on is 29cm.

I am thinking size 45. Getting the white/red/blue set Smile

I think it has to do with the shape of each person's foot.

I tried on a pair of SIDI Crossfire (not the SRS) yesterday at the track. I was wearing my SG12's.
The Sidi has a lower and narrower toe-box and the ankle cuff doesn't open up as large when the boot isn't buckled.
Both boots are size 10, but it was actually a little tough getting my foot into the SIDI. When it was in there, the top of my arch was pressing hard against the top of the boot and that prevented my foot from sliding all the way forward. There was a substantial amount of pressure against the back of the heel as a result.

So the SG12 feels very roomy for my wide toes and tall arches and it's easier to put on. Once they are buckled, they feel very secure, but comfortable.

A 9.5 wide shoe will rub on the tip of my big toe, so I run a size 10 in almost any brand.
