Been looking into a new moto rig for a while now. Anyone use this new ford van? Seems to be one of the only options that gets decent fuel economy.

It's funny you brought this up. I just saw that they are now releasing a long wheel base (LWCool version and was wondering if a MX bike would now fit behind the seats.

They list an interior dimension that is cargo length to belt but I have no idea WTF that means. Can anyone decipher this?

They show 87.3" .

Right below what window? The side windows? Would this be the measurement to the rear most point if the side window?

The fullsize Ford Transit has been available in Europe for decades. Very soon (in a few weeks) the fullsize version will be available here in the USA for sale with 3 different powertrains- the 3.7gas, 3.5 ecoboost, and the 3.2 I-5 diesel.

They are pretty nice driving vehicles, have a ton of interior room, and get much better fuel economy than the Econoline it's replacing.

The smaller version, the Transit Connect, has been around for a few years now here in the US.

A friend used one and would put the wheel between the front seats. Looked to me if you used a wheel chock and turned the front wheel sideways behind a seat it would work also.

I notice more small diesels are being made.

I think dodge makes one now for their 1/2 ton. Chevy is going to put one in the Colorado and now I see this little Ford van has one.

Hmm.

Yeah, the side windows. I'm not sure how they're measuring, but I'm assuming it's from the rear to the front following the belt line and stopping when they get to the back of the seats. Seats aren't straight up and down, they're in more of a reclined position, so that would be the reason for the shorter measurement compared to the floor. The shape of the rear doors could play a role, too, but they look pretty vertical.

I recently met someone who's working on building the Ford Transits. I may make a stop at a manufacturing facility this summer to check out how they're put together.

The Ford drives significantly better than the Sprinter. I have experience with both.

You'll be able to buy a jumbo Transit diesel with 13,500 GCWR, should be plenty to tow a popup trailer. The truck alone is ~6000lbs.

I had been waiting for the full size transit to be real eased but they keep delaying it. So I bought a Ram promaster, and couldn't be happier.
