Just came from a business meeting and all were talking about some recent football game. Now nothing against football but I finally said, "Hey did you see what happened at the Phoenix Supercross?" Vacant stare. Nothing. Not a damn thing. I wish motorcycle racing was more popular in this country.
I load my gym, doctor's office and dentist's house o horrors with old , spent MX mags.
I'm pleasantly surprised at the amount of folks that DO KNOW a little about
the sport. Usually they mention "Jerry Magraff" or Travis Pastrana....
The Shop
Almost all colleges have a football team. (no playoff's though)
Almost every High School has a footbal team. (my son was a running back on his high school team and they won the CIF Southern Section Championship )
Almost every city/town has youth football. (Pop Warner, JAAF, etc)
Now ask yourself how many ride dirtbikes and/or motocross.
someone even made a pie chart, so it had to be true lol
just in terms of general coverage, as well as attendance... things wouldn't have been a 'big'
Football = mainstream...motocross (or motorcycles in general) on the fringe...don't see that changing anytime soon....
You're lucky you only got vacant stares...I usually get "the gore story"
Me: I had a great time this past weekend at the Anaheim Supercross race, did you catch it on TV?
Them: Nope...but one time my uncle's brother's cousin was riding his Harley and he got throwed off that thing and went flying through the air and straight into a wood chipper!
