So, I found out about a week ago that RV, Cairoli etc. won't be coming to my neighbourhood. Now I found out why.
Youthstream wanted to change the contract, so that all risk money wise from the event would land on the organizers and not Youthstream. Since MX isn't the biggest sport in Finland, they couldn't take the risk all by themselves and had to give the event away.

Perkele!

No, Sweden was left out on the provisional calendar only to get back in right after they cancelled with Finland. There where talks of it going to Sweden all along, not sure if Sweden replaced Finland or any of the other cancelled events. It sucks anyway. Really liked the track in Hyvinkää and was looking forward to go there after missing it earlier.

Yes.
Hyvinkää is very near from where I live and I like the track too. I would have pretty much enjoyed myself to death to see RV battle Cairoli there.

agree about the track- i bet there will be a few sand specialists not very happy about the decision not to go to finland! (simpson for one)

uddevela isnt so bad though- not the end of the world! at least they've not replaced it with one of these silly flyaway man made, mexico type tracks!!

Wow. What a shocker. Luongo mishandling something again? That literally never happens.

Mishandling? Seems a smart business move from his standpoint for his company!

I thought the Swedish track sucked. Wasnt that the track all the riders not crazy about?

With that said it is a travesty that Lierop isn't on the schedule, but after talking to the owner last year I can understand why.

I think the issue was that they were commenting on how the place has very limited space and it was hard for the teams to get in and out.

Yeah, the track sucked last year. Hopefully they will change it though. Otherwise the track is usually good imo

Negotiating and agreeing to a deal, then go back and try to renegotiate the deal? Maybe I misunderstood what happened, but once you've already agreed to a deal, it's time to honor your contract. . .

Smart business move maybe, but in 2012 when GP of russia was canceled, Youthstream needed a replacement. Hyvinkää offered to help and organize the event, wich was the perfect thing for Youthstream location wise.
After the event Hyvinkää got mostly ecxellent feedback from how well everything went.

Then in 2013 ticket sales to Finnish GP dicreased slightly, though the event was still very well organized.
This was too much for Luongo and he wasn't going to take any change, so all the risk with financing to Hyvinkää or no GP there.

I consider this to be a stab in the back from Luongo.

There was a Swedish or Finnish guy on here recently bitching about the last GP of the year being in the US. Claiming it should be in Europe because "we will actually show up"

Won't be showing up to shit this year. Hahaha!

I've also raced the track in Uddevalla (not the new layout). It's a good track, plenty fun. It's good for the spectators when you can see almost all of the racing from one spot. The major problem is getting in and out, especially in bad weather. But I would like to see another track in Sweden get the chance again. There are several equally good or better tracks.

The reason I was a bit pissed about Glen Helen getting the final race was because last time a USGP was held the spectators stayed home. Just like Argentina, Qatar, Mexico and Brazil. If they show up it's more than fine for me to race there. And honest opinion I would love to see Hyvinkää and Lierop on the schedule instead of any of the fly away races. Even instead of Assen.

im not saying I agree with it but to say it is a mishandling.....it isn't from his standpoint. I don't get why the mx world allows these kind of people to push them around but until the riders put their foot down, this guy will do what he wants when he wants for his business! you would do the same if it meant the continued existence of your company, that's the downside of having to be the guy to make the hard decisions.

It's a trip overseas by a boat and then across the country by a bus or train. Or I could take a flight.
Anyway the distance is about 600 miles. Hyvinkää is just over 100 miles from my place. Like a hour and a half drive away.
So going to Uddevalla is way more expensive for me.

When you charge an organiser so much to hold a GP there needs to be a certain number of paying spectators to break even. If the organiser doesn't get those spectators then the bill doesn't get paid.

When that happens two years in succession....

Where do you get this information that the bill wasn't paid.

Post a reply to: Finnish GP canceled.
