PR from Husqvarna:

Dean Ferris Steps In For IceOne Racing MXGP Assualt

Dean Ferris to compete in the final four European rounds of the 2014 MXGP series for Red Bull IceOne Husqvarna Factory Racing.

Beginning at round 12 of the FIM Motocross World Championship in Uddevalla, Sweden, Australia’s Dean Ferris will compete in the MXGP class for Red Bull IceOne Husqvarna Factory Racing. Ferris will remain with the team for the following races in Finland, Czech Republic and Belgium.

The 23-year-old Australian will act as a replacement rider for the injured Tyla Rattray and will race the FC 350.

Ferris is no stranger to the FIM Motocross World Championship having contested the series in 2012 and 2013. His best results came in 2013 where he claimed three MX2 race wins and ended his season sixth overall.

This year Ferris moved to the US to compete in the AMA Supercross and Motocross Championships. But a training crash in March sidelined him with a broken wrist. Uddevalla will mark his return to competitive action.

The 2014 MXGP World Championship continues with round 12 in Uddevalla, Sweden on July 6.

Antti Pyrhönen (Red Bull IceOne Husqvarna Factory Racing Team Manager): “We’re really pleased to have Dean on board for the final four European rounds of the MXGP. It’s been a difficult time for the team with both of our riders suffering from injury so it’s great to have a rider with the calibre Dean has on board. After the GP of Italy things happened quite quickly to put this in place. At the moment we don’t have any expectations for him. Firstly we want to take the GP of Sweden slowly and then build from there. Nathan Watson will continue to act as our additional replacement rider until the GP of Finland.”

Fuck yeah, that's the best move he could have made. Hoping he has good enough results to keep him over there next year.

Well, this whole thing seems bizarre. Although, I agree, it is the best move for his career - it's just weird that there has been no mention of his Red Bull KTM deal.

This is confusing. Is he getting the IceOne ride because there is 0% chance to extend his Red Bull KTM contract? Has it been terminated? Or is it order from KTM to put him on IceOne because Waters and Rattray are out?

Who knows maybe a chance to spend some time racing a 350 before lining up on one in the U.S next year, any teams running Husqvarna's in the U.S next year who are yet to fill their team line ups.

It is bizarre, many were hoping to see how he'd do in the Outdoors, all the talk of him being signed for that and just having to get through SX,which isn't his speciality,on a sweet KTM deal too

Ferris did race Ice One Kawasakis in GPs couple years back, im sure Team called some help because both their riders are out. He knows tracks and this will keep doors open to Husky teams GP or US for sure. Nothing to gain running KTM at US rest of series anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised if the two teams worked together to reach this agreement, seeing as they're effectively the same company, and share a title sponsor. However, I'm sure Dean is bummed.

Perhaps he realised that there were not any options for him in the USA next year, so he is doing this to get his name back out there, and prove his worth to the MXGP teams?

I don't get it. Why not just go back to the Nationals.

It's obviously convenient for both parties but he could definitely do well in the States.

I think it's a smart move. Gives him bike time in a racing environment without the the pressure/expectations to win.
Also keeps the factory and team bosses happy.

Its KTM who pays the bills and they need someone fast to ride the 350 Husquvarna on the GP's while in the us they already have 2 ktms in the 250 top ten. It makes a lot of sense.

I heard on good authority that dean read Geoff the gobblers article on luongo in MX large.
Instantly phoned GP teams realising AMA outdoors is done for.

I'm most interested to see what he does following his final round on the IceOne Husqvarna (GP at Lommel). There are three Lucas Oil Pro Motocross rounds after that, I believe, so does he finish the season for KTM? Either way, I would be very surprised if Dean is back in the USA next season.

This is pretty strange. I remember all the talk about just getting through supercross because he was gonna kill it outdoors, but now he's headed back to race GP's? Weird. Not to mention the Red Bull KTM ride he had was one of the best ones out there...

His paycheck is going to come from the same address, don't forget that. He's just being moved to a different branch to fill a need right now. What that says for the future is yet to be seen but they are just 'relocating his position'

DEan Ferriss never raced in the US...never happened. Much in the same sense Allisio Chiodi never rode here, or Daryl King. Danny LaPorte never rode a Husky in 85 either. Mark Barnett comeback, Johnny O on HoTroy...nope.

The gps are the pinnacle of outdoor motocross , why wouldn't he want to race them.

Ice One is a high profile team with no riders fit, pouring $$ down the drain to have nobody ride (think Honda , lots of the time) , so with very few pilots available the draft in Ferris to give them some presence, rather than expecting Nathan Watson to ride out of his skin on tracks he doesnt know , and try and bag a few points.. makes sense for all involved, Ferris gets to ride tracks he knows and get some decent bike time rather than the one day Nationals , and Ice One get a name to keep them interested.

Expect to see Nagl there next year.

Another up and coming GP superstar that comes to America only to be sent home licking their wounds.

I have so much respect for the GP guys that CAN win on both sides of the pond (Roczen, Reed, Pichon, Pourcel, etc.). It takes some serious mental strength to do that...I'm not surprised so many fail.

It was supercross...he was just trying to survive it. And when a GP superstar's (rising star) goal is to "survive" supercross...it tells you just how hard it is...and it makes me respect those that come over and succeed at it even more.

Supercross is the pinnacle of dirt bike racing...why would any top rider want to race anywhere else?

The best in the GP's and the Best in the AMA Nationals all have to prove themselves in supercross...those that can dominate at both (motocross and supercross) are THE best and the top dogs. Those top riders that don't even try them both are selling themselves, and their legacies, short.

For sure.... he's not on the level of those guys you mentioned but they cared about SX and rode it during their youth. A lot of the non french guys don't care about SX at all and then you get a case of an Albertyn, etc. where they always injure themselves before we can see what they can really do in the discipline that they care about.
