Is there a red plate ever again in Febvre's future or just another former World Champion also ran?

Strange he definitely doesn't seem to be anywhere near as good as the year he won the title.
Or have the competition got that much better?
I hope he can get his mojo back and mix it up with the others.

I think there is something up with him. Last season before he got hurt he had a few really good motos with Gaiser.

Me & my dad were talking about this at the weekend, he was really pushing Gasjer until his big off at Matterley Basin. Hasn't really been the same since.

He can't stop crashing, getting hurt and getting bad starts. Hopefully he figures it out again.

I almost made a similarly worded post after watching the race this past weekend. Febvre is responsible for finally getting me to pay full attention to the GPs.

I don't remember if it was his championship year or not, but that race where he crashed downhill and bent his bars all up into a pretzel - then got up and not just finished, but did very well - that's what finally grabbed my attention and made me think, "OK, I'm sticking with this and watching the GPs from here on out."

Anyhow, he's always the guy I've pulled for since that day, but just like the Nats over here, at the end of the day, as long as each rider goes home healthy, I'm good with whatever transpires. I just like to watch good MX, and the GPs and the Nats provide that.

He reminded me so much of Ramon in his prime with his ability to find alternative lines. Stefan said he use to follow and watch Steve for his uncanny ability to find lines, quite a recommendation there.

He's dropped off the contender list when you are thinking podium.

If that slam caused him to slow a bit, he should be fine but he will need to get mad and stop thinking. Just ride like he knows how, he didn't all of a sudden forget how to ride.

I could buy that if he was consistently getting 3rd behind Cairoli and Gajser. There's no way that EVERYONE got faster than him. He still lights up a sector of the track purple now and then, he's got the speed. Needs to find the consistency and starts again.

Red plate again? Sure, early rounds of the season and the like! Championship? Unlikely!

Confidence is key.

During his championship year he was building confidence during the early rounds with top 5s and some moto podiums, when he won that moto in Matterly Basin he gained a ton of confidence right before Desalle and Nagl went out with injury and Cairoli was slowed with his wrist injury that eventually sidelined him.

It was the perfect storm of Febvre building his momentum and then everyone else imploding on themselves. Because that season was supposed to be the RV vs AC show down, and Nagl and Desalle were the points leaders for the first 7-8 races. But once Febvre got the ball rolling there wasn't mush the rest of the pack could do to slow him down.

Hopefully he can find that mojo again, he had it to start 2016, but Gajser is on the gas and has the confidence on his side.

He'll be back up there in a few races IMO. Hes too good not to get back up on the podium and to be fighting for wins. Itll come. Hopefully he patient enough to let it come and not force the issue and have another big crash.

He's much better than he is showing now for sure, I think he's going through the same thing as Herlings. Not necessarily injured, but just struggling to get his mojo back and looking for something to spark his season into life. He had the red plate at times last season, so of course it's possible that he could have it again in the future, but not this season, and it will be increasingly difficult with Cairoli back at his best, Herlings now in the class and of course Gajser. I wouldn't write him off yet though

He has the speed for sure. Looking at the laptimes he often has the same as the top riders. He has the same problem as herlings, the starts. He is buried waaaay down every time.

last weekend in italy he had a good start at the quali on saturday. He kept himself just behind the leaders the entire race and ended up fourth.

You just cant muscle your way up from a bad start in mxgp (if your not ac222 lol). The top 10-15 riders are very very fast and all have similar speed.

Febvre needs, just as herlings, to figure out the starts.

Febvre is still young and fresh in the class.

Plus when he won the title he came on strong late in the season when everyone else had fallen out. RV crashed out, AC was hurt and nagl got hurt too.

he's also dealing with some injuries this year apparently. He'll be a contender but not this season. Gasjer is in beast mode

Confidence man... Just confidence.

Needs some starts and a couple good results from that, then it'll come.

It is strange. Wasn't it valkensward last year were he gave it to Tony and went beast mode at the end of the moto? really hope he can find some speed again to make things a little more interesting!

Lots of factors (pre season injury, confidence) but i would be upset to have to take unecessary risks and ride all out because the bike can't buy a start since 2 seasons. When a bike starts top 15 at 95% of the time, I call it "slow" vs the competition. Top starts = ktm/husky, + honda. The rest are racing for top 5.

Great call. Yamaha 450s are known for their weak motor - especially the full works bikes.

You guys need to chill for awhile. He is 25 years old, he has many seasons left in him. This year seems to be a season to forget but it's i'm sure that he will figure things out and be a contender next year. Didn't he have the red plate a few rounds in 2016?
