Sounds like sales hokum to me - "you need to buy shock pistons!" "Come get an oil change asap!"

'09 CRF450 has been out for three seasons and I haven't seen a single shock failure.

Sounds like Teflon ring is wearing rapidly if you dont change the shock fluid.

From a local suspension shop:

Nationwide customers, suspensions builders, and dealers have reported failure of shims/pistons on the 50 mm KYB Shock Pistons. (2009 – 2011 CRF 450, 2009 – 2011 KX 450, and 2010 and 2011 YZ 450) Shims/pistons are failing on stock shocks as well as re-valved shocks for these effected models. Failure is accelerated when rear shock fluids are not changed in a timely manner (30-40 hours). If the shim / pistons fail, the end result can be anywhere from contaminated oil to complete destruction of the rear shock. OEM Manufactures nor KYB will has provided warranty on these issues. Pro-Action has engineered a replacement for the stock KYB 50 mm piston. The new piston redirects oil flow, without effecting performance of the valving. To date, the Pro-Action 50 mm piston has no reported failures. All customers of these models should plan on replacing their pistons at the time of shock service.
That would be the day I had anything associated with " Slo-action " installed on my bike.
Fist it was "Race tech Gold ! valves and now this hog wash.
Everything is just fine the way it comes from KYB. and a shock service is always good after 10-15 hrs anyway, but do NOT send it to pro action. Factory connection, Enzo, or pro circuit is the way to go.

Sounds like MX bikes do not hold up as well as the ones made a few years ago that had no valves or cams........And don't give me that crap "what does a four stroke motor have to do with it".......I think the bikes are fat as is the fat ass novice vet riders who can afford them. This heats up the shock and causes failure. And.......Al Gore says global warming could have a role.....(overheated shock).
