Factory Effex: Worst Product Support In Moto

Made the mistake of buying Factory Effex's "Mag Series" complete wheel set a few years ago and the wheel bearings went bad. They are not compatible with stock or talon replacement kits and when you call them they straight up say we don't know what bearings went in them that was a long time ago. So I guess 1200 dollar wheel sets are just disposable as soon as the bearings go bad just throw them away.

Now that I'm done venting, can anyone help me find the right bearings?

Take the bearings out and go to a bearing shop they can match them up, or just look at the number on the bearings and order new ones based off of that.

If you don't know how to take the bearings out and read the numbers or measure them then maybe you should throw them away. How can you be so helpless? Blush

Unfortunately bearings are a rare commodity and cannot be easily referenced by the numbers printed on the side.

Nor can they be measured with a caliper to find their size since they are really slippy-turney.

If only there was a way to classify these mystical objects... By some standard... We could release ourselves from the grip of evil companies like Factory Effex

Yeah yeah, don't bag too hard on the guy. It's pretty shitty that they don't even know what they sell or used to sell.

Catastrophic failure, the outer race was the only thing left which was a bitch to get out without ruining (the apparently useless) hub. Hope you feel better about yourself though.

Catastrophic failure, they completely came apart and there were no legible numbers on them. Furthermore I didn't expect to not be able to buy new ones so I threw out whatever junk was left. Funny how tough people are behind a keyboard, I'm asking for help and all you want to do is talk shit? Obviously you struggle with low self esteem, I hope something turns around for you man.

You sound completely helpless . Take a deep breath and relax . Now ,you can measure the area the bearing presses into ,we'll call this the outside diameter ,now measure the axle ,we'll call this the inside diameter , measure the depth of the hub where the bearing will press into We'll call this the over all depth . Go to a bearing store ,tell them the outside diameter ,then give them the inside diameter ,lastly ,tell them the over all depth and make sure to mention you would like a seal as well . That should give them more then enough info to get your wheels spinning good again.

Edit : You could even take the rims and axle to a bearing supplier so they can see exactly what the issue is .

You can do as said above, and also just input the dimensions online to see if you can order them if you don't have a local bearing shop.

You guys need to chill, not everyone just magically knows bearing dimensions or has a caliper they can just whip out.

I'm not helpless I'm just pissed at the lack of product support and was hoping maybe someone has had this issue and could help a brother out.

If you have nothing left of the bearings, maybe get all the measurements with some calipers, outside and inside, etc. and can get bearings based off of that, or I would think you could at least

I understand , i can't imagine they wouldn't have that info on file . Probably they were too fucking lazy to look. Good luck with the project.

Nah, they just don't have the info anymore since the product is discontinued for a while now. Or are to lazy to look. Sucks yeah, but you'll have to deal with it.

So you take the wheel(s) and axle to a shop and have the bearing seats measured, order the right bearings and press them in. Done.

Overacting about how your wheels are nothing more then a paperweight because the company couldn't help you isn't gonna get the problem fixed.

I actually had zero idea FX even made wheel sets. If you don't mind me asking (and I'm not being a smart ass), what made you decide to drop $1200 with them vs Dubya or one of the other wheel specialists??

I dunno what line of work you're in, but the OP is asking for some pretty specific info for a product the company no longer makes.

It's business man, people come and go, and I have a $100.00 the person he was talking to wasn't even working for Effexs when they had wheel sets.

Give you an Example, when I did my time at ONE Industries, I would get 2 or 3 phone calls a month from people asking specific questions from products 5 years or older, that were not only discontinued, but any paperwork with info was either discarded or in storage...I would do everything possible to help the customer, but when they want specific info that doesn't exist anymore, WTF is the employee suppose to do?

You gotta remember, moto companies aren't what they use to be with everyone in the office being a full of moto head...a lot of people working in the industry have NEVER ridden a dirt bike.

With all that being said, FX is top notch, both as a company and products...just because you can't get the info for a product that doesn't exist anymore doesn't mean you need to call em out in the title of the thread

I agree take ur parts into a bearing house and have em measure you up and get u squared away.

But I'll note check your wheels more often, you had alot of play for the bearings to be that bad.

Just got back from one, they couldn't even order one that fits nor did they have any on hand. The guy who helped me did refer me to TCR wheels so I'll be dropping it off there and hoping for the best.

Also, they were not loose at all I had just checked them, had maybe 6 hours on them no joke.

This.

Sorry for your issue OP, but FX does have top notch stuff. I get that you're mad, but those wheels have been discontinued for close to 5 or 6 years I believe. just do some searching and I'm sure you'll find bearings for those wheels

I heard about these new things called databases. It allows you to store information in a digital format. And get this, you can retrieve the information at any time. I know. My mind was blown too.

The OP didnt even say what year and bike they fit but wants people to tell him what he needs. The whole point of his thread was to trash factory effex because something wore out and he is to helpless to get it handled.

Thank you for your service young man!!!!!

Get a set of digital calipers, you can do all these measurements with these. (youtube and google are your friend)

Measure the od of ur axle where the bearing inner race sits.

Measure the O.D.of where the bearing presses into and seats,

Measure the inner distance from where the bearing seats in the wheel, up to where it stops (width of bearing)

Take these numbers to bearing house, they are everywhere.

Someone will find you those bearings....I Promise you this :-)

All you want is a bearing that works....there are tons of cross-reference bearings......

Thank you. Two bearing ships down still no luck. And to lostboy, I'm looking for anyone who has experience with these hubs because they probably sourced the same bearings (probably from china) but my bike is a 2005 YZ 125. I'm frustrated because I expect product support when I drop 1200 bucks. Call me crazy. Preferably to my face and I'll show you what helpless feels like.

Year make and model of bike?

I'd say 5 years use from a set of wheel bearings is pretty good.

Not that I don't believe your story, but a catastrophic failure is hard to believe. When wheel bearings start to wear they give you all kinds of clues that they're going bad. If true you're lucky you didn't get hurt. You're probably going to need a new brake rotor as well if the wheel was flopping around on bearings that completely failed.

Is it possible the catastrophic failure happened when you tried to remove the bearings from the hub? If so no big deal, we've all been there.

Factory Effex has always been great to me every time I've ordered from them. Great customer service. Fast shipping even with custom orders.
