''There is no doubt, now completely recovered from his early season injuries Red Bull KTM Factory rider Jeffrey Herlings is the fastest rider in the FIM World Motocross Championships and probably the fastest man on the planet.''

MX Large says so, so it must be true Woohoo

How many times per week does a euro need to create a thread like this? Don't you guys have your own Euro-forums based in Europe for these types of posts?

Herlings needs to do two things: 1) ride 450's and beat the top guys; 2) ride 450 Sx and beat the top guys. When he does this consistently, he can maybe be considered.

I think the OP was just poking a lttle fun at Geoff Meyer who made the claim.

I think you'd be hard pushed to find more than one or two Europeans on this board who genuinely think Herlings is the FMOTP, the other 20-30 of us active members probably wouldn't make that claim.

Caroli is the FMOTP at the moment (MX only), until Herlings races him in the MX class, he is still second fiddle.

Is it just me, or has Caroli shown less dominance and more vulnerability this year than in years past?? Desalle seems to be really stepping up his game and becoming more of a viable threat to Caroli rather than just another "mere mortal"

I think Desalle has stepped it up, but France was handed to him on a silver platter AC should have won, In spain as he was going for the pass he almost crashed and backed off, the first Italian GP AC was storming towards Desalle then crashed. AC has won 6 of the 11 races and it should be 7 and could easily be 8. Last week was a wash as AC was sick. So yes and no Desalle has stepped it up but AC is still in charge, 25 point lead and he will just maintain I feel. AC hasnt pushed it since the second half of 2012 and when he did that no one was close.

Plus the fact that his old man passed away.

AC often looks beatable until half way through the season, but he then goes on to dominate while his closest competitors fall by the wayside with injuries or inconsistency.

Very possible, he's a beast. It'll be interesting to see how he does at MXDN this year. I know you can't accurately rate riders on 1 race, but it's certainly an effective way to compare them.

On the small bikes .... yeah he just might be, the 450 is a whole different beast though

TC222 had a Twitter pick of him hanging his head over a bowl of steam and a towel over it, say's he was sick last week.

Yes and Desalle was hurt after last weeks "reed type jump". TC gained most points at Thailand where others had problems with bad fuel. 450 seems more interesting this year.

RV killed in SX, however you can not even consider him right now as he is not doing MX. For the point of whom is faster at MX, it is hard to not say Caroli right now, though Kroc is giving some damn good evidence for being considered.

With a difference in track style, it is not an easy comparison, but I am impressed Caroli can take a 350 and kick balls against so many 450's. Kroc is proving his speed on AMA tracks, and proved it on the 450 on the MXGP track last year.

I've said it before, will say it again; Herlings is 9 out of 10 times putting down faster laps than the best 450/MXGP riders. I'd say he's safely the fastest guy on this side of the pond. FMOTP? Not so sure, but he'd definitely be there with the other top guys. His style is very refined, puts the bike wherever he likes, scrubs every jump, superb legcontrol, etc.

In some regards it doesn't matter which class they're in.
IE- Budds Creek MXDN 2007, the FMOTP was RV. Displacement be damned, he was the fastest guy.
I get the idea that you're not the top guy unless you're in the 450F class, but at any given time, the 250F guy may actually be faster.
