Pulled a muscle, scraped knuckles, sprained ankle, broken bone, many broken bones?
Did you stop riding afterwards? Why?
Why do we do what we do? I love the sport of motocross. I love riding a motorcycle. Be it a Z50 in my front yard or a CR500, I just enjoy being on a bike. I remember spending tons of time on bicycles when I was younger. If I wasn't on a motorcycle, I was on a bicycle.
Why doesn't getting hurt, minor or major, cause us to stop what it is that hurts us?

The Shop
the 2 broken collarbones, broken thumb, broken knee, right navicular, left navicular, left ulna... none of that happened racing.... (rolling my eyes now and looking innocent)! lol I seem to be prone to falling down riding my bicycle, off ladders, and tripping.
blue cross blue shield wont cover racing accidents, so i dont wreck in those (me rolls eyes again)
2 broken metatarcals
2 broken colarbones
8 broken ribs
1 dislocated femur
1 seperated shoulder
1 broken tooth
1 severe concussion (coma for almost 2 days)
..and a patridge in a pair tree
Also had several other injuries including pulled muscles, brusies and stitches.
Every injury I just couldnt stay away, even after the concussion. Its just in your blood and you cant stop.
My last injury (completely exploded tib/fib) required five surgeries over a two year span.
As soon as I was able to walk again, the little woman got me a new helmet for Christmas.
I have been pretty lucky over the years.......about 10 years since I have started this stuff. First race since the knee this weekend.
LMAO!
Pit Row
Would do it all over again in a second if i could.
broken wrist
broken fib
dislacated ankle
compression fractures of T5 & T7 vertabrae
Torn right knee medial cartlidge
Torn right knee MCL
Torn thumb ligaments that needed to be surgically reatached
concussion
broken metatarsel in foot
plus all the usual cuts, bruises & stitches
I'm currently recovering from the broken back, i miss riding bikes
Seriously, I've been racing moto for 20 years and mtb racing for 10 and never been hurt racing.
However, I have:
- broken my arm warming up the bike behind the track
- broken my thumb riding enduro
- torn all ligaments (both sides) of my right ankle playing soccer
- completely shattered and dislocated my collarbone playing ultimate frisbee
- severe concussion jumping the BMX bike (split my VFX in half)
- broken hand during a party (don't remember what happened but I know there was some beer pong and a slip and slide involved and next day woke up with a broken hand)
and that explains our messed up mindset! lol
We accept injuries as part of the game, its not a matter of "if" its a matter of "when". Whats really wild, the response from people that dont ride to people that dont ride when they get hurt. "omg janis broke her leg!", "omg is she going to be ok, does she need anything, the pour dear, lets go over and cook clean for her".... our response... "he broke his leg? that sucks! how long before he can ride again?"
5 Concussions
Broken shoulder
My back and neck needs surgery from the years of abuse. Going to the chiropractor doesn't help anymore
At least if you're gonna break it, give the docs something to talk about.
Because i never got hurt while racing, i still pracitce 2-3 times a week and race every weekend for state championships in the +40 and 45B classes! If i ever do get hurt or even fall down then thats it i quit!
The List.....
1. Left. Tib & Fib
2. Right Tib .... not at same time
3. Left Clavicle x3
4. Left Scapula
5. Left Humorous... not funny btw!
6. Left shoulder complete dislocation..... humorous end pressed against top of rib cage
7. Left Separated shoulder
8. Right Separated shoulder
9. Left Radius (distal) occurred at same time as #2
10.Right side Ribs x 4
11. Left Ribs x2
After 30 years of MX I think I have been pretty lucky!! I just turned 40 still race B and have no intention of stopping..... For the record, "riding" my scooter never hurt... but hitting the ground sure sucks!!
