Engine Oil in Airbox? crf250r

Edited Date/Time 8/10/2015 11:29am
I noticed engine oil in my airbox today when I was changing my air filter and have never had this problem before. My bike is a 2012 crf250r and like stated, it's not filter oil, it's definitely engine oil. Anybody know why this is happening and if I should be worried?

That's a breather line that runs from the crankcase into your airbox. Normal for the crf250r. Applied racing makes a kit that blocks that line to the air box and instead uses a billet aluminum filter system off the crankcase and gives you a plug to put into the airboot so that doesn't happen.

9 times out of 10 this is caused by putting too much oil in the engine. I have seen some model bikes that do this new with the correct oil level. It can be corrected by rerouting the breather lines.

Too much oil in the cases. Nothing to do with crank seals. There's an over flow that goes into the air box

If you dropped the bike while it was running, you'll get oil in there sometimes as well. Get the breather kit, your bike will run a little better with it.

If you lay it over and the engine is higher then the air filter it will drain oil out the breather hose into the air box.

+1. Had a minor tip over once where the bike was laying on its side running ~10 seconds before I could pick it up, the air filter got soaked with engine oil.

So this happened to my wife's bike yesterday. I'm hoping it's just the over flow some of you had talked about.

What is the best way to re route the breather?
