I'm giving this thread a bump just to say that this website has a ton of Michigan Motocross stuff on it besides the Eddie Warren story. All kinds of pictures and video of guys like Mike Hartwig, Denny Bentley and more. It is really worth 15 minutes if you are into moto history.

do yourself a favor and read Ed Warren Sr.'s story before you read Eddies....amazing motorcycle history in that man. These 2 interviews were the most in depth, well written interviews i've seen in long time.

he was one of my idols when i was on mini's. Used to stay for afternoon races after we were done with ours in the morning....just to watch epic battles between him and keith bowen.

Check out the pics. Eddie was an early '"scrubber".

15 minutes.... I spent over an hour there and never scratched the surface ... excellent content , in depth research , and considering im from the UK and never saw any of these guys race , it was still a great read ... sign of good work is that you just have to carry on going till you are done, read Eddie Warren & Hartwig pieces , going to do some more tonight .

Thanks for posting the link .Old-Man

Right, that one letter shines a whole new light on that whole Mickey Thompson/Mike Goodwin deal. He sounded pretty pissed

Gillett, let me know if you want to sell that 88 KX-250, you dog, beat me too it.

Been looking for a nice one to restore.

One of the best bikes I ever owned.

I just spent a few hours going over the stories and pics of Ed, Eddie and Mike. I am too young to remember these guys in there prime but was a fascinating read since they were local to me. Author really put there stories together well. Michigan has produced some great riders!

I raced against Eddie a couple of times in Australia in the late 80's. I say raced but actually was just in the same race ha. Didn't get lapped though which I was happy with.

looking through all the pic's in his album is such a throwback. such good times. was the early beginnings of michigan mafia. So many fast riders came outa that era.

what says mafia better than this...

and Donnie, you should print/save this off for you and your bro's bikes. Smile

Growing up in that era in Michigan was a great time. Anywhere we went we had a mental advantage (and a target on our backs!) over riders from other states. In the late 70's and through the 80's Michigan riders dominated the amateur scene. The factories pretty much ignored the talent because it wasn't California and in those days if you weren't from California you just couldn't be fast.
If you all want to see some old school pic's and stories from that era in Michigan go to the Michigan Mafia Reunion FB page, It was started by Rusty Hibbs and Mike Konners (Team Dynamic) a few years ago for an actual reunion they organized at Red Bud one year, but it has spawned to much more than that.

I can remember running a race at Baja Acres in the silverdome series...i would say 83 or 84 where there was a foot of snow....and the race went on. They let the big bikes (vets) hit the track first to knock the snow down for us mini riders. when we got out there...all it was one dirt line around the whole track.

One thing thats surely changed since then is mud riding...michigan riders always rode in the mud...no one went home. When loretta's would get rain....Michigan would take home a bunch of titles. Dry, hard pack blue groove was our weakness.
