why don't factories offer a duplicate copy of each rider's bike, in the event there's a malfunction before or even during an event? is there an AMA rule forbidding it?

Used to be as long as you could run more than one bike through tech. They put a band (zip-tie like) on the bike. You could tech an extra bike, we would do that if it was major muddy, you could get some track time on a practice bike and not have muck up the race bike. Factories might do it to run two different machines and decide after practice.

one bike goes threw tech and u use it all day , you can change frames or motors but not whole bikes, and u have to go tell the offical when you change one or the other, ive switched a few between motos at southwick most of them finished!

One of the reasons for the rule is for it to be fair for privateers that can only afford to have one race bike there.
