Sorted.

I like the idea, but how many more side covers do you punch through going that route? It's not a solution if you trade one problem for another.

I do wonder if the future answer might be to put it behind something, like the wing of a skid plate

Off road guys have been doing that for decades.

Chuck Norris is 1/8th Scottish. This has nothing to do with ancestry, the man ate a fucking Scotsman!

In terms of off road, KTM should know that...

Or a dual clutch automatic. What's another 10 pounds anyway? Things are practically a two-wheeled quad as it is.

I dont read every thread so I might have missed it but is there any pics of his bike with the bent shifter? It puzzles me how he could go as far as reaching down there over a jump and shift it up or down with his hand but couldn't do it with his foot. I would think if it was bent out to far for his boot to fit under he could have maybe pulled it up with his heel ( like some guys do off the start), and even if it was bent out, why could he push it down with his hand and not his foot? Not bagging on him, the dude is a badass, just curious.

with the hydraulic clutch i'm sure KTM could make it work

leverage is totally different when the shifter is bent at an odd angle.

I decided if dungey can ride the entire MEC track in 2nd gear then I dont need any other gears on my bike either. So I put my yz250 in 2nd gear, then took my shifter off to lose some weight on the bike. Now when I go test it out I should be much faster.

in woods racing.

they have things like that safety wired. at least brake levers. so why couldn't one of the biggest off road OEM do that after the first time?

so it only can bend so far. just a thought not being negative.

I've bent a shifter like that before, only more around the footpeg so my foot was constantly hitting it no matter what. Nothing a quick stop and a wrench couldnt fix(offroad race). I cant fathom shifting in the air with your hand on a 70ft triple doing an air wheelie all while battling for the lead. Dungeys a bad ass. Its also unlikely we'll ever see some gnarly skidplate like WC or Moose makes on any bike just because of weight.

It was covered pretty well that it was just a freak incident. No need to reinvent the wheel. Probably won't happen ever again.

I was amazed to see it happen twice. I thought for sure the KTM crew would get it all sorted out by the second moto but low and behold it happened again.

I put up a really cool Dungey vid on the homepage, it was a TV spot and pretty sure it is the 1st vid i have seen inside his home.

Was a great video and cool to see Dunge a bit more relaxed... One thing that always bugs me with these sort of vids tho is although it is focused on the rider, they always just focus on that, and don't even mention the rivalries that make up the rest of the sport... If you new nothing about the sport there, then Dunge hasn't lost since he turned pro... Yes he's won a lot but talking about the intense competition would better promote the sport than the seemingly endless stream of domination ala MC, RC etc...

Cheers,

Crush

when you try to stay out of trouble by running your lines close to the tuff blocks the price can be costly.

Have you ever tried to bend aluminum ? That is a very tight radius to bend without it snapping .No way anything inferior made its way on to that bike with Roger D over seeing its build ,not even the slightest chance.

Freak accident.
Keep calm...carry on.
