I like the Dunge alot! Can he win on a KTM? well I hope so! But racing against JS7 on a Suzuki and RV2,TC41,CR22, etc....its not going to be easy to win no matter what bike he is on...

Yeah, no one should talk about moto on a moto board until the official results are released by the sanctioning body. Derp.

I agree but the pumpkin will NOT be a handicap.

I'll bet most people bagging on KTM have never even ridden the later models. The bikes are really good.

they just have to have so many of those bikes in warehouses or dealers within a certain amount of time from when he starts racing it. same as when they debuted the 350...etc

Under the AMA Supercross/Motocross Approval Application only a "manufacturer" can apply a bike for homologation (not a rider or dealer). Additionally, the applications says that there must be 400 units of that model available at U.S. dealerships. No one knows if this rule is even remotely enforced and there were rumors that it would be changed, but the Approval Application still lists 400 units.

The 400 bikes must be in the country by June 1 of the current season—which means that a manufacture could race the complete Supercross season with a works bike...and then on June 1 introduce a less sophisticated production version. Verification of the 400 units is done by notarized bills of lading.

Are your (GL) warehouses big enough? You are KTM dealers now, aren`t you?

we are a KTM dealer now, yes. as for us getting these...who knows.....plenty of KTM dealers im sure will take these. 400 units just have to be in the states by June 1st.....so he could ride a complete works bike until that time

Do they have to be for sale on June 1st or just in the country?
the rulebook states they have to be in dealers, doesnt specify that they have to be for sale. i would assume dealers wouldnt stock them unless they could sell them. so i think that they would be for sale at that time

If true, I was thinking they would call it a 2012 1/2 model.

KTM is the new Honda folks, get over it. They got deep pockets and are willing to spend the money. They make lots of bikes, not just a 250 and 450 4 banger.

I don't get why you guys dislike seeing another brand join the races. With Suzuki on life support you would gave what left, the big three?

it'll be what alessi is riding in the nationals. the 450 XC is EFI, the SX isnt. so 450XC it is. not to mention, the 450XC engine alone is 6lbs lighter than the SX motor.

I for one do not dislike seeing another brand joining the fray. That doesn't mean I have to automatically think it is just as good or better than the proven bikes that have been out there. I still see KTM as a slight disadvantage taking on any of the Japanese bikes at the factory level. Very very slight. With that said, I think Dungey wins the 2010 MX title on a KTM 450 still. Throw in that animal named Villopoto though and it changes the whole landscape. I think Dungey and the Suzuki meshed very well and may have a lot to do with his success. Time will tell if that can translate to the KTM. Sometimes a bike change works wonders for a guy (RV and the 2012?) sometimes it is a step backwards if only due to personal preference (Metcalfe on the Suzuki?). I'm a big Dungey fan but can't help seeing him struggle with the change. By struggle, I mean lose a fraction of a second a lap to RV. The Suzuki might have been one of the best setups on the track after all the years with RC and then Dungey in it. There is no doubt Dungey is good enough to easily finish 2nd on a KTM, but beat RV more often than not? Will the KTM be up to it? We will see.

Right on, I didnt know if they had to be in the dealers hands or not at that point. Which means they will prob have to be shipping shipping them out quite a bit sooner.
I would just like to see some actual announcements on the teams for next year. Im chomping at the bit to see where people and sponsors ( San Manuel) are going

Good post. I see ktm for the general public, and at the pro level in euqope equal to the japanese bikes. Having said that, this new bike is totally unproven, with no one but dungey to develop it. They are behind the eight ball supercross.

I think it's not going to be easy for any of them to win.....isn't as as simple as RC vs Chad Reed days...
