Has any single rider done as much for a brand as Ryan has done for KTM? I can tell you I have gone from giving MX bikes away at cost to selling units as they come off the truck for good margin. He has forever changed the precetion of KTM in MX. Thx Ryan, those of us in the trenches will never forget.

That he did. It took a leap of faith for both of them to buy in.

I agree totally what Ryan and Roger have done for KTM. Roger Put the RMs on the map and after that Marty Smith sold every Honda that hit the showroom floor in 1975:

P.S. 3 - KTMs in my stable...

Oh the Red Ridders, I even wanted one. and latter on RJ All joking aside I dont guess the PDS was a good match for moto though I never had any problems with mine but I'm not really a moto guy.

That is another discussion that involves Mike Lafferty and Shane Watts.

For a lot of years, a pile of my trucking was through Michigan, up and down I-75 north of Detroit, towards Sault Ste Marie. On weekends I'd always see the woods boys loading their stuff up, and heading north to play on the trails, and rarely, if ever, was a bike not Japanese. Slowly, I noticed the bikes turning orange, until it was almost exclusively that colour. I haven't run that corridor since that fall of 11, but I'd bet that the MX scene has turned in a similar direction. Amazing what happens, when a company invests in what their customers want, and refuse to jump on a bandwagon. Innovation, proven concepts, and products people want. Kudos to KTM.

I think this guy had a big hand in the Yamaha MX program. While there were some ground breakers before him on Yamaha for sure, Hannah I think sent it to the next level. Good props to Marty Smith above for Honda!

When we say Hannah we need to say McCarty, too.

Nearly everyone on forums thought RC signing with Suzuki was career suicide back in 2004. And especially after the bike broke at the U.S. Open of Supercross.

Those trail guys love KTM's.

And then they do things like build a killer bike, and add electric start! All of the woods guys that love electric start don't have to buy the watered down (WR and CRF-X) bikes anymore.

I was never a fan of one brand over the other. I bought whatever I thought was best. The 2013 KTM 450 is hands down the best bike I've ever ridden.

I switched from KXs t KTMs in 2k but had raced huskys in the early 80 so I don't think the switch affected me as much but i know a lot of the guys that went from jap bikes to the KTM on the early models (2k-04) had problems with the PDS big time. I never found a ktm to be a good trail bike the link always seamed better for a pure trail bike to me, but then again I've never been normal.LOL

PS: I dont consider a offroad race bike (KTM) to be a trail bike. I laugh when I hear guy's call KTM race models trail bikes.

I think DeCoster has been the bigger influence with KTM. Roger, in my opinion, is the greatest of all time. Aside from winning world titles when Europe ruled the world, look what he did for Honda, Suzuki, and now KTM after he retired from racing.

Fo sho! Yamaha sales definitely benefited from that duo.

The entire KTM effort is the greatest success story in the motocross industry. Im making the switch this year and will never buy another japanese bike.
