So I thought my KTMs had gas tanks that were hard to see gas level, what's the trick to see how much gas in the newer YZf's?

Fill a swimming pool up with gas, submerge the whole motorcycle, hire a crane to pull the bike out, hire 5 monster chicks to turn the bike upside down, put a salad bowl under the tank to catch all of the gas as it comes out, purchase 7 ratio-rites to measure what comes out, get a Texas Instruments calculator to add it up, then put it back in and you will know how much is in there

Well it's a light grey tank so take a flash light to the side of it and look in from the the top to see where the level is.

How would a clear stripe down the tank look? Much like the clear stripe down a quarter of oil?

Adding a sight glass wouldn't be too hard to do if the brilliant suggestion of a Ping-Pong ball isn't your style.

1) Install a barbed-nipple fitting in the bottom of the tank.
2) Install a T-fitting inline with the fuel-cap vent hose, then put one of those little check valves above the T.
3) Connect a piece of transparent fuel hose to from the barbed fitting to the t-fitting.
4) Use wire-ties to route that transparent hose along the frame and keep it out of harms way.

The fuel level will be the same between the tank and the transparent hose.
You can use a sharpie or some various colored zip-ties to mark the hose at 1/4 gallon increments.

Since way back I use a stick, piece of 3 eight rebar actually. I never put more fuel in than is needed for the moto.

Carrying extra gallon or more is useless when running the typical 4 lapper with 2 gates and 27th in the moto order.

I ground some notches and got it down as to how much I needed for what was coming up,be it a short local or LLs moto.

Good grief haha. Bunch of neurosurgeons and comedians around here. Someone already said it. Shake the bike a tad, listen and look. Besides, you don't want to be that guy running out of fuel on the face of a jump. Think of it as a car. At half a tank, it should be filled to help save the pump. You should know this you have ridden ktm's Evil Unless your doing 30 minute motos then you fill her up after a ride anyway.

Yesterday I filled it until I could see it, thought I would be good for the day. Hour meter said .7 hours and ran out of gas. Was riding a sand track, so using more gas but figuring I wasn't even close to a full tank to run out.

Simple - the DaystarMX.com Fuel Miser. Yamahas should come with one.

If you can't see it from the top you don't have much (less than half a gallon). The tanks are pretty flat, and that makes it a little deceiving as to how much gas is actually in it.
