That's what I was thinking also. What would happen if they did blood testing of the highest level of testing and a top rider failed? I truly believe a lot of riders would fail if proper testing was done.

I understand the scepticism, considering the history of drugs in practically every other sport on the planet, we'd be naive to think some riders hadnt atleast looked into the option, given the dollars involved at the high end of the sport nowadays.

The problem is the same one that is faced by every other sport, the testing technology is always one step behind the drug technology, and if all they are doing is piss testing then that is not gonna catch anybody who is smart about the use of PED's. We are at a point where athletes in other are being scrubbed out and having records erased without even testing positive, but the investigation and cost required to go that route is so much higher then just a couple of tests done a couple times a year to a handful of riders after a race.

Maybe nobody's doping, who knows, but i think the real argument here is that if anybody is and they are serious and professional about how they do it, the testing measures involved in the sport currently arent going to catch them anyways.

I think it's pretty safe to say piss tests don't detect any of the drugs (eg: HGH, EPO, Testosterone) that riders are using, so until blood testing is done riders are free to use whatever they want.

Then how do you explain pro cyclists getting caught using a urinalysis? They aren't drawing blood after a race.
The most common thing actually found during a test is masking agents, which give the testing body reason to test further, to possibly include blood test. But it all starts with a piss bottle.

I don't know what drugs cyclists get popped for from a urinalysis, but I do know that many drugs do not show up in urine. Regardless, blood testing hasn't been done in SX (to my knowledge) so that gives a lot of freedom for riders to use HGH for recovery and EPO for endurance, among other things.
