My wife thinks I'm nuts -- listen to this dilemma...

I had my 5th ankle surgery last Monday, but of course still planning on going to Thunder Valley this weekend.
I'm walking ok around the house, but to get around a national is another thing!!!

Also, not riding my motorcycle to the race is out of the question because of the parking situation. I can ride my KLR right up to the entrance and park for free.

Here's my question...

I want to bring my crutches with me so it is easier to get around. Is it crazy to ride my motorcycle with crutches somehow attached to my bike or backpack or something? Am I totally crazy to ride around on a motorcycle with crutches? It sure sounds ridiculous, but hey, I'm ridiculous!

Heck ya, you sound good to go. We've all seen much crazier stuff than that at a national...

Good physical therapy for the ankle and mental therapy for the moto brain. Win/Win.

My step dad rode his harley in a half body cast from the hips down. Always had a riding partner to lift on and off the bike until he got in to regular leg casts. Strapped the crutches to a sissy bar, which was gone as soon as the casts were. Broken ankle? And you are questioning this? Come on now. Eat some dungy wheaties and toll the klr to the gates

Nothing screams Chuck Norris kind of badass than showing up to a MX race, on a motorcycle, with your crutches.

The whole family is great- from the amount of them, to the dog, the ladies shoes and also the sporty fairing !
The kid right on the back kind of has an 'Indian Incredible Hulk' type look about him going on!!
Bike looks in remarkably good nick, considering the way it appears to get used, doubt whether the clutch lasts too long though!

I don't know, man. Crutching a motorcycle from Denver to Lakewood sounds incredibly difficult, but everyone at his crossfit box will be impressed.

I'll second the "You can do it Bro!"

I rode my street bike when I was "non-weight-bearing (NWCool " on BOTH of my legs. You'll be fine.

i had to pick up my truck from the parking lot of the bar a few weeks ago. no ramp and no tie-downs in my truck meant i had to pack my 6' aluminum ramp and two tie-downs on my street legal KTM300. i put the ramp under my ass, up to the gas cap and hanging off the rear of the bike and had the tie-downs in a back-pack. it was very awkward to try to ride like that but i'm tall and have long legs so it wasn't the worst thing ever.

i got a lot of funny looks, but it worked.

i've done the same with crutches, but i would fix them to your back-pack if you can.

If you do attempt it, then pack the crutches and any luggage very carefully so as not to obstruct anything.

Me, (like an idiot) went for a road ride once, packed a coat for the bad weather- somehow I packed it poorly and it worked loose and snagged the front wheel... As I flew over the handlebars, I passed out and woke up 1 minute later with a broken arm!

This is the norm in Thailand too. The parents would maybe have helmets, but never the kids. No shoes required. Shit was crazy, but so fun.

I as well am hoping to make Lakewood but am not 100% sure as I broke my tailbone and 2 lumbar transverse process last week. Not using crutches and such but it is painful to sit and have not been able to stand more than an hour much less walk a long distance.

I am thinking i will just relax and rest up and watch the stream.

To answer your question....No, not crazy! I haven't read all the responses above but I'm guessing not one person has said don't do it.

Makes sense to me, but remember, if anything, anything at all goes wrong your wife told you not to do it. Are you ready to live with that?

And it doesn't even have to be your fault.

At first I thought this was an attempt to reason with me. But then you came back and added that first sentence.

Thanks for the support!

Nothing like rushing through an injury to save money on parking.

I've seen a lot of people, especially moto, people not take recovery seriously and also seen the long term effects.

It isn't pretty.

This was just a little cleanup surgery from an injury 12 years ago. No recovery required...

Did this myself on my DS. One on each side(pointy part forward and down), with the under-arm parts coming together/hanging over the back fender. Zip-tied everything on tight. Worked great.

Don't forget ties for the return trip Smile

Seriously the kid in front must be thinking ... "I'm not going to survive this am I?"

Look at him and tell me he isn't.
