Does this make sense

Does this makle sense, it seems impossible:

A 125 engine at 10,000 rpm thats

10,000 revolutions per minute

10,000 revolutions per 60 seconds

166 revolutions per second

plug fires 166 times a second

Doesn't sound possible, what am I missing?

dunno, but it reminds me of my childhood.

when i was 12 my dad told me to put my thumb on the end of the spark plug when he kicked the kick starter and tell him if it was sparking.

my dad was a dick back then.

This boggles my mind also. Crazier yet, some of the model airplane motors I used to run at 30,000 RPM with not much nitro. They sounded like the were screaming compared to a 125. The motors we ran had no rings or bearings. A simpler version 2 stroke with even less moving parts if you can believe that.

I hear they now have RC car motors that do 40-50,000 RPM!? Last RC car I listened to sounded like a whistle.

The Irony... We now have a motor that is TWICE the displacement of a 125 with 157 MORE moving rotating parts that runs 14,000? that REALLY boggles my small mind. Can 233 rotations per second be good on all those valves and springs and chains all clankin around at that speed? ...in the dirt, the arch enemy of high RPM motors.

Maybe we've crossed the not so fine line for MX.

They have been Honda V8s exclusively. Now they're changing to Honda and Chevrolet (Ilmore) in a 2.2 litre V6 configuration. I believe those changes only go into effect for 2012, but I could be totally out to lunch on that.

Under current rules, rev limiters are issued by Indycar and set at 10,300. Do the math on that one.Woohoo

Back in the 60's, Honda was racing at the Isle of Man and running 250cc, 6 cylinder, air cooled, in-line four stroke bikes that would routinely rev to 20,000 rpms.

In the sixties. Think about that.

125 and 250 six in this vid. Imo, by FAR the best sounding motorcycles ever.

Currently, Honda supplies all Indy car teams with 3.5 L V8's limited to a maximum of 10,300 rpm (governor regulated). In 2012 engine specifications are changing to allow direct injection turbocharged V-6's up to 2.4 L supplied by both GM and Honda. No talk of what the RPM cap will be.

Just to keep things interesting, Lotus has also signed on for 2012.

The current Honda V8 breathes through downdraft throttle bodies. The 2012 Honda will get a big assist from twin turbos.
