..hold the career record for number of main event positions given up? We all know he is a great starter, but Jesus he throws the anchor once the top 3-4 guys get by him. It happens every week and James eventually lapped him tonight.
I like Mike but there has never been another rider that has had this pattern.

The guy starts better than he races,,,,so what? As bad as many make him out to be, he makes every main easily. There aren't a lot of guys who can say that. There are zero guys who talk shit on him here that can say that.

He looks like he has no desire to even try and win or even get a top 5 or hell even a top 10. He just fades and it's his own doing. I don't know if he is just ready for the outdoors or what. He just kind of gives up and let's everyone by. It's very strange. I am not sure what he is doing-if it's a fear thing, confidence thing or just not that interested in SX.

I think so too kinda like bagget, they're just tryin to get through sx healthy and then throw the hammer down at hangtown. Didn't mikey pull out of sx early last year just to get a headstart on getting his outdoor bike setup?

yeah, some riders just seem to be great at one mx or sx and pretty bad at the other. MC, Seely, Bagget, Alessi ect are all top5 in one then top 20 in the other. tho bagget and alessi are prolly having their best sx season or atleast riding their best, alessi used to drop anchor like this alot more in the past couple years, hes alot faster through corners and whoops this year

The greatest starter by far in the history of the sport is bound to lose positions when he is pretty much a top ten at best finisher. Better to be up front on occasion then never at all. He gives his sponsors more TV exposure than most of the riders that finish in front of him

Being the best starter ever would be a pretty cool title to have. He can pay his bills just by getting the holeshot most weeks!

Maybe you're getting Baggett mixed up with someone else. He's a good supercross rider and has been on the gas lately but he suffers from reallyyyy bad starts and bad luck. He went from 14th to 3rd tonight. That's far from "just tryin to get through"

I asked the same question awhile back and got the same kind of answers.

I don't think anyone is keeping data on positions lost. They do keep lap charts though. Someone with more time and interest could probably do some work to figure it out from that data.

Mike's starts are getting him tv time. How many 10th place guys get as much air time as MA?
His sponsor is probably very satisfied. I would think as a racer you have 2 goals,
to finish as best as possible (win), and get exposure for your sponsors. Looks like he is
excelling in at least one goal.

Mike looks intimidated by the other guys. Plain and simple. Maybe it's because he is not on a major factory team anymore. Maybe he doesn't want to ride over his head. He just doesn't battle for any top 5 positions. He just lets them by like shit there going to run me over.
There is NOOO reason a rider of his caliber that has been doing this as long as him should be lapped last night after getting the lead.
It honestly looks like a confidence thing.

I would have to agree with this. I think folks like the OP just are frustrated because he has the speed and doesn't use it. He does better than 'almost' half of the field though.

He's not a top rider who has won races either. I hate that argument.

Bottom line, Alessi used to rank up there with Villopoto and the best and he has had plenty of time to be up front just like the rest of the guys. He has the talent, he's not injured right now. He is doing something wrong. He should be battling for wins a rider of his caliber.

Why should he be battling for wins? Not everyone can be a RV, Stewart, or RC. He may be doing everything right and simply does not have what it takes to be up front. The problem is with the fans that expect things out of a rider that the rider himself may not possess. Sometimes people are disappointed because they have false expectations.

That's why I made the comment that I made (it's what Grieby would call be an argumentative prick). It's a bit silly to be calling Alessi out on his fades when none of you could even qualify for practice at these races.

At least it's a mode he has LOTS of experience at.

The way he was riding earlier in the season, I thought this might be MA's year to bust the top-5...but now I can see its same old same old. If there's anybody who should push for an outdoor-only contract next year...it would be Mike Alessi!
