I agree that it's a nervous/anticipative thing to do right before the gate drops, but what's the point other than to warm your engine up?

LOL. But I still would say "yes" because it could make that "split second" difference. I always thought that was the reason anyhow. My bike we always jetted to where they didn't load up.

Any bike can load up, so yes it's wise to make sure that the bike is cleaned out before the gate drops.

Once the engine is warm there is no need to continually rev a 4 stroke. Hold the throttle steady at 1/2 throttle in the seconds before the gate drops.

I did'nt think it was neccesary either. Just noticed it watching a few of the nationals on T.V. and pretty much determined that it was a nervous thing.

I remember when 4 strokes were first coming back and friends that came to the track would ask whats up with those bikes? They sound like they're farting around the track ...lol .
