Did procircuit really put helium in baggets frame?

6/19/2012 7:17 AM

I was reading Monday convo with bagget on racerx and saw that just wondered if it was true

I doubt that they put helium gas in the frame. It doesn't seem like a safety risk Mitch is gonna take for some absolute minimum weight gains. But what would I know....

You're kidding... right?

Maybe I'm really gullible but in the conversation he said that they put helium in the frame to make it lighter.

When you think about it though why wouldn't it be possible? It's not flammable or explosive.. Im no expert in biology but it seems like it could possibly work.

well, what the heck....

A friend of mine fathers passed away a while ago, she wanted to send him a shot of Tequila to the heavens on his birthday via a bunch of helium balloons. So I attempted to figure out how many balloons. To hold a light shot glass with one once of Tequila in it I calculated 20 normal size balloons. Later we figured it would not be such a good idea to put a glass shot glass 2000 feet in the air, since a shot glass dropped from the that height would give someone a really bad headache. So we used a plastic shot glass instead. We used 12 ballons and it lifted slow, but it did lift it. So what is the point to this story, nothing but I thought it was fun. BUT there is so little volume in a frame putting Helium inside would not make any difference at all

Heck yeah they did. Helium in the frame and freon in the handlebars. PC knows all the best tricks.

You would freak out if you found out what they fill the tires with.

yes. they did.

I'll bet if you called Pro Circuit and asked really nicely, they'd sell you the kit and materials to make this happen. My guess it wouldn't be cheap, though.

Anybody who thinks they're confining this to the frame - well, I've got a bridge to sell ya....

I've got some insider info here... 78% Nitrogen, 20% Oxygen, 1% Argon, with the last 1% being traces of around a dozen other gasses.

Not that I'm an expert in 'biology' but I can whip up some of that special compound for about 10 bucks a can........

6/19/2012 8:39 AM

back in the day.... Porsche used to pressurize some of their race car roll cages to see if their integrity was compromised. They used super light aluminum tubing that was filled with air and had a pressure gauge on it. If the pressure on the gauge dropped, they knew the frame/cage had been compromised. Maybe Mitch is doing the same but is using an inert gas like helium.?

Yeah, and I heard the small nitrous tank kit hidden in the handlebars for holeshots was even more expensive! Not sure if it is available yet though

they put N2 in the tires.

R-acer already has purchased this kit I'm sure.
