OC that was gnarly!!!

But as bad as it was, he actually landed pretty well for flying 65+ feet. Hope the dude is alright.

He was so lucky to land on the downside of that jump! That could have been bad.

Who is making light of it? He was fine and walked it right off.

He got off the track and was patting his helmet, looked fine but without a doubt in shock. I'm sure he's feeling it today.

I talked to him on text and he said he was fine, just really sore. His bike was too bent up to make it to the LCQ.

Man, that was a serious poop in your pants moment. His patting his helmet was clearly a move of "holy shit, am I really awake right now? Did that really happen?"

My wife asked why he was patting his head, I said to make sure it was still attached! Gnarly get off, glad it walked it off.

That first guy on the Honda, at a minimum, shit in his pants.

Probably the only thing he could see was a Suzuki landing pad, which would not have ended well.

From what I recall from the broadcast (did not go back to watch again) was it ended ok for all, but damn that was ugly.

Great that all were ok and walked away, scary shit.

That was crazy. I rewound it a few times on TV, To me it looked like the tough block up the face hooked his boot and when it up-ended he got ejected! Hard to say he was lucky but that could have been a whole lot worse.

I gotta say.....when I saw that happening....the first 2 seconds of it.....had me going " OOOHHH Shit!! " Glad that dude is alright.....could of been about 100X worse! he held onto that sum bitch for all it's worth and rode the back side of that landing about as good as you possibly could have! Impressive!

The rider is Auston Albers out of Georgia. I am his mechanic/employer. The crash was pretty horrific in person as I could not see him get up with the blocked view from the mechanics area. Our bike is trashed; he is sore and banged up. He drove the 13 hour drive home from Buffalo NY yesterday and got home at 11:45 last night. He was in my office this morning at 7AM to go to work all day Land Surveying in the field today to earn a living.

These guys are the unsung heroes of our sport. The ones that keep trying knowing that there is no ride or support for them to earn. They are doing this out of sheer will and desire to race against the best competition in the world. They literally sell their souls to do this. He ran good all day and we qualified 26th. I felt he should have made the main saturday night if this had not happened. This year he is the only Suzuki 250F mounted rider to make a main event on the east coast. At many races we were the only suzuki in the night show.

If anyone ever asks why there should be 22 riders in a main event on here again; respond to them that the unsung heroes deserve those gates. There have been a few working class heroes in both classes this year that this change has helped.

For now St. Louis is a no go for us. Our workload is swamped here at home; the parts to make the bike race ready and get Austons body back while working a job this week just don't add up to the petty reward. I feel like he made his point when he made his first main event at Daytona.

Look for Auston at the Muddy Creek and Red Bud Nationals on a YZ250 two stroke this summer. If you can't make a living racing professionally you might as well have fun doing it right?

He did not race the LCQ as they stated on the tv broadcast. With the new format and lack of RMZ250's within the pits I did not have time to get the bike prepared. I do not think he would have been in shape to ride it either. The sheer mental fatigue of the wreck and him spooked pretty good.

P.S. GuyB we sure could use that privateer spotlight we talked about on the homepage!

Glad he's doing good, that could have been real nasty.

Great story, thanks for the information and post.

Not surprised his bike is trashed. That Suzuki literally stopped dead and then bounced from the impact! So glad Auston was able to slide down the back face and escape relatively unscathed! Smile

For the circumstances, that ended the best way possible... Glad Austin wasn't hurt, he's a good guy.

It sure did....looks like it hit right on the clamp.

Glad to see he walked away from that one.
