Should i go with a brand spanking new 250F, probablly a kawasaki.

Or should i go with a 2008-10 YZ250 2 stroke and do a bit of work on it like suspension, bars things like that (rebuild entire motor)

Please do not be biased

How serious are you about racing? Answer that question and you will know which one to buy.

If you're worried about cost go with a yz250, obviously two strokes are cheaper to maintain. But I honestly can't see a downside to either, try to see if you can demo a late model kawi and see how you like it. For me I'd go with the yz just because I'm a bigger guy and don't like wringing out a 250.

I had a 2011 KXF250 so i know for the most part how they feel. Just there was a couple killer deals on lightly used 250 2 strokes and i wanted to hop on that bandwagon but maybe il just buy a new 250F and shut my mouth Tongue

If you can afford it, the 250F is fine, but be prepared for the real set ups and cost that go with it. If you race for fun, can work on things yourself, and are on a budget, the YZ250 2T would be the way to go. 06 and later has the good suspension, you can do a UFO face lift to make it look modern, as well.Wink

Well....to answer that question honestly , you need to figure out what you feel more comfortable on. The 250 2 stroke is legally able to run with the 250F's and if you're comfortable riding one more than the other....go with that.

It's all rider preference , what you feel at home on , and what your wallet can afford. No wrong answer here.

Has Kawasaki fixed the 250? I remember a lot of the 13's blowing up with barely any hours on them. I'd go with the YZ, mainly to keep the costs down, while still having an awesome bike.

2 stroke. When you twist the throttle on that yz, you will know you made the rite choice. Just can't beat the power to weight ratio of a 250 2t. You'll love pulling holeshots against the 250f's. And isn't the start the most iimportant part of the race? Grab the holeshot and work from the front, not buried in the pack with the other 250f's..
Yz 250's are excellent bikes.

That's not a given. There are a few blown theory's in this video. The first one is Shawn Rife (250F) getting the holeshot on Jeff Gibson (250 2 stroke) and the 2nd is Gibson railing the outside lines to work a pass.

No, notihing is written in stone, but the 2 stroke will get the holeshot 9 out of 10 times with equally talented riders. And you can't deny the simple fact that 2 strokes are more powerful, have more torque, handle better, are more durable, cheaper to maintain, are 10 times more fun and are realistically a better overall racing machine.
Do you think if the manufacture's made a 450 2 stroke and the pro riders had a choice to race either discipline, everyone of them would choose the 4 stroke, ...I doubt it very seriously. Same thing with the 250's. Most, if not all, after testing and setup would choose the 2 stroke. .
But the banger is better at one undeniable thing...they're easier to ride. But a yz 250 is pretty easy to race also, especially if you gear it down and add a fww..

My personal opinion is the yz250 i just picked up and rode for the first time a 03 yz250 AND got an opportunity to demo a 2015 yz250 and 125 coming off an 06 rm250 i wasnt expecting a lot but ill say this, the late model yz250's are the epitome of a perfect dirtbike. NOBODY can touch their stock kyb sss suspension and the engine is flawless even if youre a 4 stroke guy its seamless and torquey and the bike will hold a line as good as any 250f. I cant speak for tue newer Kawasaki 250f's but they have good engines ....if youre racing throught the ranks to go proand are really serious then id say 51% 250f if youre racing moderately serious id say that the yz250 is the best bike ....of vourse thats just my opinion but the yz can be raced in a lot more classes its a lot faster than a 250f but not as brutal as a 450 it will feel lighter than even the 250f and they are extremely cheap and easy to maintain, not to mention that if youd be looking for more power it eill cost you a grip of money the yz just needs to be ported, a vforce, and pipe/silencer ...all of which wont cost more than a full exhausr system standing alone....something to think about, and have. You ever ridden a 2 stroke on a moto track?

The 250t is in awesome bike but if the tracks you race end up being hard packed by the end of the day the 4 stroke will have an advantage.

The new (2013 and up) kxf250 is a sweeeeeet bike. Sure, the YZ sounds much better, smells better, is cheaper to maintain and to buy, etc etc. But it's almost silly how easy it is to go fast on a new 250f. What I'm really trying to say here is that the 250f is the bike for you if you are chasing results and really want to win. So, if you're really into racing, the 250f. If you're out there just for fun sakes, the YZ250.

Exactly. If you want the facts the just google the specs for both bikes.

The yz dosnt just sound better, it is better. How can a bike with more HP, more torque, better handling, better suspension be worse than a bike that's simply easier to ride. Unless he's plamning on turning pro in the next couple years, the yz wil make him much happier, and be a much more effevtive race bike. But hey, 250f's are awsome too. I've seen guys on 250f's smoke guys on 250 2t's. But I just came off an kx 250 and now race a crf, 450 (14 model with mods), and my kx was actually quicker (much quicker), and was everything my new Honda is, and more. And it was half the cc's. Although it was harder to race. I have to admit though, my Honda is a much better race bike, but its a 450 against a 250, not a 250 against a 250. Thats a totaly different game. And im that game the 2 t's better..
