Even before the gate drops at Hangtown the talk and speculation on the MXdN team is already brewing.

DeCoster said on the show this week he hopes Villopoto finishes out the GP's strong and would be available for the team. Could be a unique chance at some redemption after his challenging season.

Surprisingly, over half the feedback from the show doesn't want him on the team, and would rather have the spot offered to those racing the outdoors.

Kind of reminds me the "long" story of 2014 french MXoN selection... Between the pro-french US riders and the pro-french GP riders...

Who in their right mind would prefer "somebody racing the outdoors" than RV? Villopoto has been dominating the outdoors for years and now he will have a lot more experience on GP tracks (especially French hard pack tracks). Something the USA has been missing the last years ...

RV needs to get back to where he was before his prior surgery before he should be considered for the MXDN Team IMO. His recent setbacks with this new injury are also a concern.

Ryan, Ryan, and Bubba on a 250.

Unless we have a different 450 champ or either Ryan or Bubba refuses or can't go.

Plenty of other fast guys to choose from as well.

Feel free to flame away.

It would be a little like when Hannah rode the 125 at Unadilla in 87!

Not many people better at keeping the r's up on a smaller bore either..

Villipoto, Dungey and Tomac - Eli has already commented that he'd be glad to ride the 250.

I think Decoster has proved many times that he just doesn't like to select James.

I want to hear it right from Decoster as to why we don't send our BEST THREE racers, not the two best 450 riders and the current best 250. I'm sure its politics and "fair" but who cares - that's not how it used to be. I don't think a trip to Europe and a boat-load of pressure is a smart thing for a rookie 250 racer.

Well that just means half the people giving that feedback are pretty dopey. Of course it makes sense for RV to go. He's your best guy AND he'll have a year of those tracks under his belt. Every time he's gone he's won his class. Can any of your current riders boast that? Maybe, but not many.

Villopoto in MX2 is the only way to win the MXoN.

Bubba won't be going because his suspension finishes in august and I doubt they'll pick him over someone who has races the whole series. I think putting a 450 guy in the 250 spot is dumb, giving them another thing to adapt to ontop of different style tracks and bike set up. Plus i think it would hinder the guys in the 250 class.

If everyone's healthy it will be tough between pick between

DeCoster and RV should turn their backs to them ungrateful hillbillies and let those smartasses figure it all out on their own.

Like they forget how to ride a 250.... They're PRO'S and it's been done many times before (for example AC222):

Villopoto
Dungey
Tomac

Hell, I'll even throw in our team Wink :

Herlings (350 or 450)
Coldenhoff
Bogers

If RV is fit and in form, DeCoster's biggest decision is who to put on the 250. You would have to say that Villopto and Dungey is your strongest 450 duo. Do you stick Tomac on the 250? Or do you put your 250 champ on it. It's a nice problem to have

no of course they dont forget how to ride a 250, but its another thing to adapt to. The Americans have struggled with the tracks and bike set up the last few years and a 450 guy on a 250 wont make it any easier.

Plus how do we know any of the 450 guys would be faster then martin/webb/AC on a 250.

RV, RD and JS would sure bring up the excitement for a lot of people. Dream team. I'd love to see #7 wringing out a 250f again and he has all summer to prepare.

I agree with you, I think putting a 450 rider on a 250 is an option, but you should only do it if you really have to. For example I'd be pretty surprised if Roczen didn't ride a 250 at the nations, because Germany don't really have any great MX2 riders atm

This kinda bums me out that we won't ever be able to be competitive in MXDN. (hopefully someday though)
There was a podium once, but it was a mudder.

Aside from an injury, I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want RV on the team. And jeez.... what a turnaround that is! The last few years people have been seemingly desperate for Villopoto - "Dungey's good but not RV good" etc etc. Honestly if he's healthy then the one guy you absolutely want on that team (along with Dungey) is Villopoto. There's a mind-numbing number of options for the MX2 spot also. America has a great chance this year.

USA has a great chance every year, no matter who's in the selection, they're always one of the favourites.

Agreed. I very nearly added an every in there but couldn't be bothered to edit again.
