DO YOU THINK THAT 250 TWO-STROKES SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO RACE AGAINST 250 FOUR-STROKES?

Yes. I think it would be fine. The two-stroke makes more horsepower, but it makes it over a narrower range, while the four-stroke makes less power, but has a broad powerband. I think they are equal machines. The two-stroke would be better in sand and deep loam, while the four-stroke would be better on harder dirt. It takes a more talented rider to race the two-stroke and I can see where it would be difficult for most of the current 250 four-stroke riders to make the change. I'd wouldn't oppose a rule change."

Sweet!!

Man check the dings in the pipe on the suzuki in the second pic in the article. Easy to see why they went away from that design isnt it.

Couldn't help noticing this part -

Roger D. on his Suzuki bosses:

"I think that the Japanese managers don’t see a problem until it is in full crisis mode."

Given current events in Japan .....
Great interview!

Why can't reporters and riders be more honest like Roger in that interview?

That was the best damn thing I've experienced media-moto-wise since Chad Reed did a Racer-X video interview like 8 months ago.

Kudos for MXA, for keeping journalism alive, and kudos for Roger for being honest with himself and his fans!

OF ALL THE RIDERS YOU HAVE WORKED WITH, WHOM ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?

Ryan Dungey. I’m very proud of my time with riders like Ricky Carmichael, Jean-Michel Bayle, Jeremy McGrath and Ricky Johnson, but they were established stars. My role in their careers was to help them, but not to mold them. In Ryan, I had a kid from the very early stage of his career all the way to the top. I was proud to be able to give him the things he needed to show what he was capable of. I didn’t give him the talent—I just gave him the chance.

Yep, certainly good to hear from someone with experience. It's interesting to hear how the Japanese just simply don't listen until it's too late.

The Rodge gives a fantastic interview.

I love how he shoots it straight on every single question.

Most interesting to me was the questions about TP199, you can tell how much he wanted that kid racing a dirt bike.

Roger treats DMXS to live interviews on occasion. Worth searching for the archive.

Very good MXA article.
I am proud to have been a major Roger fan since the late sixties.

The same reason they pulled Honda and Toyota out of F1. As soon as either team started being successful it was "Oh no we're doing fine, lets not do more than we have to" and then by the time they got serious and put all their resources in to a design the teams both pulled out with amazing cars. One went on to win both championships under a different name and one never raced.

Isn't that something?! There's no way the Big 4 are listening to anyone constructive regarding SX and MX. They will pull out of the sport before they change anything - for company pride.

DeCoster is Motocross!! how many of you guys remember when the USA sucked at MX and couldn't even get on the podium when the Euro's were in town? All that changed after RD moved here and gave US riders a target to aim for; I'm not saying US moto dominance would not have happened without him but there is no denying his presence speed up the process, and for that he deserves respect.

RD earned the right to state his opinion on anything and everything MX . . . Anybody taking cheap shots at RD should rethink . . . It's like saying Michael Jordan sucks at basketball.

Yes. I think it would be fine. The two-stroke makes more horsepower, but it makes it over a narrower range, while the four-stroke makes less power, but has a broad powerband. Awesome interview! It was so cool to meet him at Indy. Too bad I was too nervous to talk with him!

Sounds like Porecll priced himself out of a few possible contracts. Also noticed he never mentioned Chad Reed in people he is proud of.
