That is cool.

I use to love Thursday night PIR when I lived up that way. Smile
Here is an old shot from PIR 1980 (where the McCormick Double is now) back on my yz50.

Back in the 1980's & early 1990's they used to hold a press day at PIR (Thursday night before the National).A lot of the top guys would show up and put on sort of an exhibition race for the local media and journalists.

I think it was 1981 and Burgett and a handful other 500cc pro class riders were out there turning some pretty fast laps and Eric Hall went out there on his LOP-YZ80 and friggin smoked em all! A few guys pulled off in disgust. It did help that Eric had a replica of the old PIR track in his back yard, but it was still pretty funny to see.I remember my Dad looking over at me and saying, "see!, it isn't the bike, it's the rider". Blair seems like a cool guy. He was looking at the track in New Orleans in the stands, and I was checking out his Fresh Geico gear obviously long to distract from his concentration for what he was doing. Big night for him to being his first ride on the Factory team. Instead of being a prick he waves and says how are you doing. I have a lot of respect for people that appreciate the fact that many fans admire the position they are in, and don't get on their high horse.

I have been racing P.I.R. for about 25+ years , and i gotta say , it gets a little cooler every year. The dirt is some of the best dirt i have ever seen. Very loamy , holds moisture all night , the lights are better than ever. The only thing that still kind of sucks is , the moto's are still back-to back to back......they are relentless. All the way up until 3 years ago , i was still running 3 classes there , and sometimes made it tough when one moto was right after the other. Maybe if i can afford the time off next spring , i'd like to get back into doing some Thursday night stuff.

thats an awesome photo. I used to love pir. Im super local only 5 minutes away but i must say the tracks from 01 and 02 where the best ever. the one in 04 when mike alessi showed up was super fun too. big gap over the start straight into the finish tower double. pretty gnarly. The racing thursday night was awesome, congrats to daniel, he tore it up.
