Custom painted helmets.... Only for the pros?

Edited Date/Time 9/22/2014 10:22am
Alright, got one of my helmets back from my painter, what ya think? Anyone else run custom paint? Buddy says it's "too much" for a local level racer... Thoughts?

I'd tell your buddy that it's your helmet and money, so you can run whatever you damn well please.

Fuck that shit man, your helmet is rad!

I don't get that attitude, and the same thing with people who bag on you or others who work their bikes... If you can, and you want to, good fucking on you (And Me!).

I like cool shit, one of the best things about this sport.

Awsome looking helmet. And you also got good taste with the military theme.

Very patriotic, very American, very cool. Awsome.

I thought it turned out cool. Hard to find any helmets that are patriotic, especially with the Marine corps eagle globe and anchor. I enjoy trying to make my stuff nice and different... I think people feel like it's a waste for an intermediate vet rider to spend the money on that stuff, but sounds like most of you agree.... It's half the fun! I think the guy killed it on that old helmet for a great price, might trust him w an expensive lid over the winter.

Next one he does for you, have him mask off the flexible moulding parts. That paint is not likely to hold up well on the bendy pieces.

He's got some good airbrush skills.

Run what you want, man. You go faster when you are confident, and if a custom lid makes you confident- boom! It worked.

Agreed, having cool, and inique stuff is what makes this sport fun. It's the sw reason we spend 800-1000 on an exhaust for our bikes which we all know we don't NEED. Motorcycles are about fun to most of us, so do whatever makes YOU happy. Also, as stated before, Whoever did that lid did one heck of a job. That's a beautiful piece!

I guess it depends on how much money the "local racer" has to spend on something he likes! Man, if you like it...you feel more confident wearing it, and can afford it...go for it!

Great helmet btw! Smile

Looks cool! I just had JJW Designs work up a couple wraps for my boys. We go through helmets too quickly to justify paint.

I always run a custom painted lid by hellion design. and every helmet I've had done over the years has been an American flag theme. It's not something I plan to stop doing anytime soon.

My current lid is the most unconventional Stars and Stripes I've run to date. My next one will probably go back to more traditional.

Lee always does great work and he posts here! Probably have him do another for me this winter.

We were the test dummies for his new wraps. They turned out way better than i ever expected. They fit very well also.

Shane's posted pics of that helmet numerous times now. I'll drop one here of the Kelley boys Six Days lids since Shane brought up American flag themed paint. Oh and on topic, most of my customers are local racers, not pros.

Cool helmets. Awesome to that there are a lot of guys doing things to stand out. And American theme helmets are always close to my heart. Those wraps look like they turned out really well! Quite a bit cheaper then custom paint? Be cool to be able to change it up often if the wraps are less expensive.
