Does it have power bands? I had a friend that had one of those once; had power bands in every gear. Would nearly flip on you if you hit the power bands. Another friend had an xr 200, but it didn't have any power bands. Nice trail bike though.

Every time I see a bike in similar condition locally, I try my best to talk to the owner. Invariably, they regale me with mighty tales of "power bands in every gear! " lol. Also, "That thang'll pop wheelies in every gear if I kick in the power bands! " is another golden oldie I always hear.

And usually if you do talk to the window licker they almost always were sponsored by honda or yamaha during the 70's/80's.

Around here, the yz490 is the bike of legend that everyone seems to either have owned, or knew a buddy who owned one. It's always the old yellow and black yzs as well and not the 1985 or newer. Every story you hear of powerband badassery involves a yz490 that was "wicked as hell!". If the person telling the story is 25 or younger than its usually a yz125 that is the super powerful bike. Strange that this area is yamaha-centric in its choice of legendary bikes. I wonder if it's like this in other areas but with different brands? I've never even seen a yz490 in this area in my entire life but they seem to be as common as Sawgrass around here if you went only by the stories you hear.
