Won't happen. The 40 riders in America are the 'fastest riders on the planet'. So he can only ever be 41st or worse. The US team is not going to pick the 41st fastest rider to represent them

Unlikely, though not for the sarcastic reason Beeby gave. If Thomas were leading the MX2 points the odds would go up. If he were giving the MX2 a Herlings style heat-down then he'd be the obvious pick.

Soon, but probably needs to be more consistent yet. Osborne never got a look in...

The MX2 rider hasn't been that great for the USA lately, so I'd say it's worth the risk choosing him over the 250mx champion.

Strongly disagree as our outdoors haven't started and for about 94% of the rounds he's had his ass handed to him.

Im curious what rides you think is so great he deserves a MXON ride? Mexico?

No way! The best part of the nations is seeing our top boys here go up against the rest.

I think he's a good pick too. He's already on euro time. He's likely comfortable on the track. His bike is already there and is euro spec. He can maybe offer a little insight into bike setup. Those are all things that 'Murca has to deal with when we send guys that haven't been over there. We've seen our own go over there and choke.

He has been top 3 in atleast 1 moto in mexico, trentino, and valkensward and had a great quali moto today with a 2nd, he has had some bad luck with crashes but he is getting faster and faster each race. I think he will get several podiums and maybe another win before the season is over.

I don't see a time a GP rider makes Team USA and lets get real Thomas has a long way to go before it even being a real choice.

I couldn't agree more. That Villopoto guy didn't even do well at the GP's, no chance he would be picked for Team USA in his racing times....

Might be a more consistent choice than say Tomac who threw it all away for Team USA in Teutschenthal MXDN in 2012 screwing up scrubbing that jump!

Martin was last year's pick, would Covington have faired better? Maybe
Extremely fast last year back at Glen Helen, behind Forkner and Martin, with the race in Europe how will potential favourite like Forkner perform under the circumstances?
Personally I doubt any better to be honest,i think some underestimate Thomas

Covington wouldn't get a top 5 in a USA race, sorry...... I know the mxgp field is deep but the mx2 class I feel is a little off the pace.

People really think Covington is better than Jmart, Forkner and Osbourne? I'm not saying Covington couldn't beat them guys in a random Euro race here and there but come on...

We still would have won that day but Dungey rode worse in Germany than Eli did last week.

Probably no. But we are not talking about a US race here. The point im trying to make is that he is more used to the 2day schedule, he knows the competition, he knows the track better than any other US mx2 rider. He is getting better and better every weekend and. Lets see how he does the rest of the season. I still dont think he would be a bad choice.

Matterly is going to suit AMA top guns so in this case. It such a good pick but maybe at a sand track or a real stereotypical Euro track he would be a reasonable choice.

He wouldn't be a "bad" choice at all. I don't think anyone is saying that. What most are saying is he isn't the "best" choice.

No matter how this title plays out as long as he does well outdoors osbourne should be the pick hands down even if he is the third fastest guy outdoors. Take someone who actually is familiar with the tracks and scene in Europe and actually enjoys going there.

I would be more on board with this if it wasn't at Matterley. It's going to suit our guys. Any number of 250 guys will be in the running and they would all rip at Matterley. J Mart, Forkner, A Mart, Savatgy, Osborne, AC, Hill, MeElrath, Smith, Plessinger. A few will rise to the top but I honestly have no clue who it's going to be from that list. All I know is it's going to be a fun summer! My guess... J Mart, Forkner and Osborne.

X2

Plus, factor in who he chases around during the week. Zach is in shape and ready to run with JMart all summer long. Barring injury, this should be the break out year he's been searching for. Hope he takes care of business later tonight to keep the snow ball rolling!

If Covington starts contending for wins on a weekly basis in the GP's, then yes he has to be seriously considered.
