REMINDER! Please attend tonights Costa Mesa City Council meeting at 6:00 p.m. and ask the council to support Agenda Item #3, which is to send a letter to Governor Schwarzenegger asking him to cancel the sale. Wear Red to show our unity!
If you drive through CM now you will find hundreds of homes for sale, and for rent. We simply don't need more at this time.
Has that changed?
The Shop
I am pretty certain they don't have plans to operate a Fair.
Barf
We spoke before two packed rooms, lots of Media...
However...

Mayor Allan Mansoor summed up Tuesday night the sentiments of the City Council and residents who said they will urge Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to stop the sale of the OC Fairgrounds.

City leaders also announced that they will explore pursuing a bid for the 150-acre site by the state's Jan. 8 bid deadline. The City Council had voted unanimously during a closed session on a motion to take such action in an attempt to bring the property under local control.
Councilman Gary Monahan, who introduced the motion, said the ultimate goal is to persuade the governor to cancel the sale of the site.
"What you'll find later and in much more detail is that the state doesn't always listen to us," said Monahan, who also said looking into putting in a bid for the property is a back-up option if the state turns its back on the city's request.
The city is also looking into launching a ballot initiative to allow voters to decide zoning restrictions on the property and working on a specific plan to place a tighter framework on the site. This will cost the City approx., $150,000.00
Councilwomen Wendy Leece, and Katrina Foley made a presentation on the timeline of what has happened since the city originally opposed the sale of the site in 2004.
Selling the fairgrounds is not a resolution to the state budget crisis and will displace numerous business owners and members of the equestrian community, Foley said.
In addition, selling the property to a private owner would harm already-existing contracts, entitlements and relationships with surrounding entities, including Orange Coast College.
Foley pointed out that the process has lacked transparency and that any revenue that could have benefited the state from the sale would be devalued by litigation.
Officials also encouraged residents to write to state legislators and the governor about their concerns.
More than 30 community members spoke at the council meeting to voice their opposition of the fairgrounds sale and urge city leaders to "derail the sale". One speaker, Vern Nelson, even held up a tape player at the microphone and sang a rendition of "Tainted Love" by swapping the phrase with "tainted sale."
"A lot of us are getting sick of government-behind-closed doors," said resident Allan Remington. "The hurry-up of the proposed sale is a disgrace and we need to take a good luck at why."
She is deep behind this, and did a lot of work as Mayor Pro Tem, I admire her a great deal.
Katrina Foley, is also another that is really hard at work.
The entire City of Costa Mesa, Government, put together an awesome power point.
Common sense will not allow this sale.
Also, i worked at OC Weekly for a long time and still have contacts there. i will see if they are aware of the situation (i'm sure there are). I haven't picked up an isse in a few weeks so it's possible i missed something. The OCW is always good for whistleblowing on important issue like this that many times doesnt get the attention it deserves
You think you have a right, to your rights ?

PLEASE fax a letter in requesting to STOP THE SALE !
This is not only for OC residents, this is for any motorcycle enthusiast, or anyone that remembers what it was like to visit a Fair when you were a child.
The sale would be the demise of thousands of jobs.
Let alone to loss of another race track !
Get on board people... it takes only a minute, and I am running out of alias names !
Arnie and Co. have been looking at selling off other fairground sites and any state owned properties they can rid themselves of.
Sure like to know the list, if there is one of what they're looking to sell off.
Good luck Slow.
Pit Row
I know Del Mar, is considered. It's kind of close to home, but I am busy with Costa Mesa.
Del Mar, is very attractive sale wise. It's on the beach, and has a train station...
We have invited the Govern-nator, to our next meeting. We'll see what happens. We'll see if he really is involved.
We are also considering boarding a few buses, and visiting him.
Heard the Del Mar consideration. Cal Expo has also been mentioned.
Good luck at CM.

We will be Victorious !

RE: Please do not sell the Orange County Fair Grounds to a developer!
Dear Governor:
I am a California native, who attended OC Fairs as a small child, Speedway Races in the late ‘60s, as well swap meets.
I still travel to Orange County with my family and spend money in and around the OC Fairgrounds area. We do not want to see the many activities and visitors displaced by this proposal.
Thank you,
Jim Johnson

Thank you very much.
As I have said, common sense will not allow this sell. However, we can't just sit by and hope it will be ok. That's how we have lost every race track... People have to come together, and fight.
Thanks again.
