Anyone know the story on this bike? It doesn't look like any other '78 Elsinore I've ever seen...seems like a 'one-off' build or something...but it sure is pretty.

That's a nice scoot; Newmann Tydog and I were trading emails about it this morning. That nos swingarm had to have been a pretty penny.

Schwang! Woohoo

Though I would have to say that it is too nice (and too expensive) to risk riding it like it should be. The conundrum.

Holy crap. I'm not sure it get's better than that. Way to nice to ride. Some of the fab work is sweet like the clamps, although nothing beats having the real NOS stuff. When you in his price range that's a deduction (like I have any room to talk LOL)
I would have to say it's one of the Sexiest bikes I've seen.

Curious about the forks. The Fox forks were 44mm I believe and I don't remember that they were made prior to '79. Somehow these don't seem that large, but maybe they are. I'm thinking '78 most production forks were 35-36 mm, maybe some 38's. I know I lined up next to a guy with some on a Honda at a race in Sparland, IL in 1980. The 38's I had on my 1980 YZ seemed small and inferior compared to those 44's. At the time I thought they looked as big as a tree trunk Smile . Amazing how fast suspension designs changed in those days.

The bike really looks great though.

It is too nice to, but in an odd way, because some of the bits are not really totally in sync. IMO.

Not really a fan of the glass beaded cylinders on those bikes. No way you'd see a DG pipe on a Fox bike then, those tanks, unlike the early Fox zooks, were not painted, and the dls front brake is cool, but wouldn't have found it on that bike then, and I think they guys spending up bikes then would have left a twin shocker behind by the time the dls brakes came out.

But that NOS arm shouldn't be ridden for sure. Tons of good stuff there.

Hope he get's top dollar.

Production were 37 on the 78-80 250's. Odd size. Those definitely are the 44mm FFF.

I think you guys are missing the point of building a bike like this. I'm quite sure the owner wanted all those parts for a reason, not because it was a replica of a Fox Factory bike. Very, very cool either way.

Im not a "HONDA guy" but That Honda,That Honda is breathtaking to me. Wow. I don't know if I could just own it and not ride it. It needs to be raced...but most likely will be cared for like a piece of fine art , never again to throw roost on a race track.

Checked out Muller's site. He is one of those guys that you rarely hear of but does some pretty amazing stuff. Giovanni ribis? I've seen that guy in all kinds of movies but never knew his name. Good stuff OC

Yea for sure! he is one of those guys you've seen SO many times, yet never knew his name, for instance "Saving Private Ryan"

and trip out on this interview of Mueller from Carson Daily, he talks about the shark shoots, he is a madman! http://vimeo.com/53469627

Yep, like FTE said the detail work is really well done but the choice of a few bits will be holding it back a tad on the sale possibly. Looks like he was building it as as a possible racebike but it turned out too nice! It happens....Smile Whoever buys it will sure as hell have a good starting point for whatever it is they want it to end up as if they want it any different than it already is.

Andrew Short's father in law has a couple 78-80 model CR250's that are like that bike. Tricker than all shit, lots of ti and fabbed parts, and he runs the shit out of them. Very cool to see the nice ones out on the track. Like they say, "ride 'em, don't hide 'em".

My low hour unrestored 80 CR250 I nabbed back in '98 and added all the Fox suspension, cheesy Ceet cover, Akront rims and a DG head, a rarity for that bike. Like a dumbass, I sold it.

One thing for sure about those 78-79's, if you want to ride/race them it's good to have a spare clean tank for show, because those ally ones don't take a hit well.

I did a few laps with Subway Tom at Rio early last year. He was riding a trick 1980 CR125 and I was really surprised at how fast he was on that old tiddler.

Very nice, having raced a 78 in 78 and then running a few in the 90's in vintage, I know them well

but never with trick parts.

Doh@ newman, thats a nice 80 and yeah dont think dg was selling many heads by that time.

Like FTE said, the DG pipe isn't right, nor the painted tank. They had plastic graphics that went on the side of the tank. I was riding for Fox at that time and had 44mm works Honda forks on mine that Gunnar slipped me out the back door along with the bikes. I think the coolest thing on that bike are the triple clamps...sweet! I also don't like the silver fins on the barrel.

Awesome picture Bauer... So late 70's,

So, what was your take on Scott boots back in the day when they came out?? I had a pair and could not feel a thing when i rode with them.. never quite sure where my feet were half the time. But i was 12 on a YZ-100, and could barely ride, sure that had something to do with it.
