My clutch cover gasket has given up the ghost, and the oil check bolt is semi-stripped, so I'm going to replace the entire cover.

Question is, why is a Boyesen cover only $93 while a Hinson unit runs $170? Is there something I'm missing, like increased oil capacity, or purely cosmetic/name recognition stuff at work?

Boyesen are cast aluminium so much cheaper to make, whereas Hinson is billet so much stronger and obviously much more expensive to make, as well as having a better coating.

The Boyeson will lose quite a bit of it's powdercoating first ride. The hinson will hold up a lot longer but will also rub off.

if it were me, i would re-tap the bolt hole, buy a new gasket and have the oem one powdercoated extra thick.

The powder coating on the boyeson cover on my CR250 has about 20 hours on it and it's just starting to wear through to the aluminum in a spot that's smaller than a dime. The best part is they were doing closeouts last year and the cover cost me $28.

Cool story bro. I wore a spot the size of 3 fingers in the 9 o clock to 12 o clock position in one ride. Maybe i point my toes in harder. But I won't rule out the possibility that the dirt at my local track is just mean dirt.

Some people are harder on the bike than others. I have friends that can make a bike look like a haggered roach in one ride.

I'd personally go Hinson if I was replacing. Especially if you are riding a 2-stroke. Every guy and his mom has a Boyesen on their 125 and/or 250 smoker.

Hinson cover also holds more oil. I believe it's an extra 200cc, but I could be wrong. I put one on every bike I get. You can get/find good deals on ebay for Hinson covers. If you still have the '05 Suzuki RMZ450, I just saw one on ebay for $80.00. I'll try and find it and post the link.

EDIT- Here's a link for $146 shipped, the other one must of sold.

I think this is the guy that had the one for $80
