I will usually nut on the inconsistencies of the rules in our sport...

But in this and Philthy's case, I'm in full agreement.

Especially while the teams haven't gotten their shit together enough to bully the promoters into getting a better deal... until the costs and profits are better shared, and the riders keep losing out, a rule change to let these guys make a decent living seems sensible.

Mind you.. Tickle, Bogle, Mookie, Weimer, Hansen and Canard might have all liked that flexibility not so long ago.

This is the same guy that deserved a permanent number 11 right? Now he's dropping down?

Does he keep his permanent 450 Career number? Does he forfeit it? How does that work? Is it reserved for him if he moves back up?

Good for MCR I really hope they have a good year. Chiz and Philthy were never 250SX Champions and they never even pointed out unlike most of the guys on your list.

He will keep the number 11 as it is not just a 450 career number it is a career number no matter the size of the bike. It is his number until he doesn't score enough points to keep it

No such thing as a 450 career number, he'll be 11 in the 250 class and 11 if he ever races a 450 again. And yes he deserved it because he earned it.

So far, this thread has to be some sort of record for the number of people agreeing with each other.

But why not? Any info? Mike said they'd have Freddie on for 250-west. I think even Freddie said so on a swedish site.
Just a shame if he can't get some help.

He opted out due to a deal with Oneal that didn't work with the team deal (JT).
He took the Oneal money and went his own way, it's what I got told.
Dissapointing for the fans since MCR is a very solid team and with good results it could have been a good thing for Norén.
Hope everything will turn out good for Freddy anyway!

I've got no issue with Chiz dropping down it's just this shows how jacked up the permanent # situation is. That deal needs restructuring. We are not NASCAR. More riders need to run the # they actually earned the previous series. I like chiz and all but come on man. Too the average fan they prolly think he is the 11th ranked rider. When in fact he is nowhere near that. Don't see how he should hold onto that #. Look at mike brown holding the #3 all those years. Super lame

Abolish the point out rule and let guys ride what they want and what they can make the most money at.

Good for SmartTop for sticking with MX/SX!!!

I don't remember anyone having a problem with Dowd's #16. What's the difference with #11? It's not like it's a single digit. I'll admit that I like the old system the best but I'd be happy with single digit for premier class champs only (meaning Dungey and Stew are the only legitimate single digit guys). Otherwise, career numbers are fine and Chisholm earned it.

And I'd be OK with that if he stayed in the premier class. Dropping down to the feeder class should negate the permanent number he earned. I also think the threshold for permanent numbers is too high. Top 3 in the overall points (250/450) and 250 MX champ should get that option..... not top 10.
