In my opinion Caselli has got to be considered one of the best all around dirt bike riders, pretty much ever. WORC, Baja, Dakar, Hare and Hound, ISDE wins and/or titles...and he even qualified for a national I believe. (How many riders have that on their resume?).

Anyway, watching him rip around in the desert on this Dakar bike is VERY impressive! (This is a cool video)

Caselli is one of the most well rounded riders we have today. It is hard for people to understand how hard it is to be so good at so many disciplines of this sport. Hat's off to him and his success.

always been a huge fan of Caselli. because i grew up racing desert, a lot of my favorite riders growing up were off-road guys like Hamel, Davis, Hedman (local of course), and now Caselli.

thanks for posting, Rad video

That reminded me of spending hours riding through the little Salt Bushes at our local sand dunes.

Not 100% sure, but it looks like Owens Lake/Death Valley area to this old California desert rat.

In the fall of the year before then next Dakar, KTM produces the New Dakar Bikes....there is a limited # available for other Teams and rich riders. I looked into getting one and did talk to the Dakar Bike Coordinator via email in Austria - 2008.
To rich for my blood.......$42000.00 US$ was the starting cost for minimum.

Rich is a great guy and rider for sure.

Pretty sure that the KTM Dakar Bikes are all 450's with a custom gear box that contains twice as much oil.

The ignition cover looks an awful lot like an LC4/LC8.

Dude has serious skills! I really enjoy watching him ride. I remember at the National Hare and Hound at Cherry Creek, UT watching him come in to the pits and the dude was just flying.

Good times!

Thought so, but it's been 33 years since I lived there. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing that. He really is one of the best all around riders ever. I've never seen anyone go so fast in the desert or the woods. And Dakar is a hell of a race.

The whole engine is a 'custom' 450. Not like they just throw in a 450sx-f and call it a day. The dakar has a shorter stroke and bigger boring, just to give an example.

At Catalina Grand Prix he had started to really check out on the whole field when his bike blew up on the fire road. He was slowly coasting in neural down the road when someone near us says "oh man you were leading it!" Caselli says "I still am". It was like a minute lead after 3 laps. He rips!
