We went by there about two years ago and wanted to see any changes this year...
I will post them asap...
My friends got me interested in moto from the Carlsbad GP's, attended from 77' till the end.
Easily the best track I ever raced, I love hills, the current flat, smooth, jump, man-made tracks just don't quite get it.
No comments on the original GOAT eh?

I wrenched for a friend riding support class at the 77 USGP. On practice Saturday I missed one of the shots I'd have liked to have. Mikkola running the 1 and DeCoster running the 2 came over the drop off before the finish line side by side.
I like you're style, we probably bumped into each other at those races & didn't even know it!
I live about 15 minutes from Saddleback, and have been thinking about doing a track walk there, too.
You can still see most of the track.
I took that pic as a 15 year old. Borrowed my fathers Minolta SLR and bought a roll of b/w Kodak Tri-X 400 film. He got so pissed off at me because I brought the camera back so dirty... the chores I had after that was endless LOL.
Had no idea what I was doing, but I raced there many times from the ripe ol' age of 14 (and as an adult), so I kinda knew where too stand that might be a cool photo...
Mikkola was just bad ass.
Had no idea who he was until he showed up one night in a Suzuki box van.

See all that I have scanned in so far. I have others but no time... Jim's Carlsbad photos...
thanks ark, great shots!
Supercross has fucked moto since its inception.
I, first of all, remember seeing Decoster, on TV with a blown shock at an early Carlsbad GP...I'm guessing 75 or 76. I was at my best friends house and was a whooping 11 yrs old and already, dirt bikes ruled my life even though I didn't quite own one yet.
Fast forward to the mid 90's when at a flat supercross inspired track in Keno Oregon, (where I thought it would be good to get back into moto on a YZ-490) I longingly looked over at the Four-Wheel Drive track that threaded up and down nicely through the ponderosa's, and wished like hell that I was lapping that relatively safe while gnarly outdoor inspired track.
Pit Row
I must have just missed Todd by a few days....it would have been neat to see another person taking photos there...
My mom, dad and I made the summer vacation from Az to 5 USGPs back in the 70's and 80's and they are both gone now, so it was cool to have my 4 y/o boy with me this trip....10/12
Thanks for the post.
How cum only 2 guys, maybe 3 to my knowledge (and 1 of them is retired) have that kind of fire in the belly, the attitude that "I came her to chew gum and kick asses, and since you got no gum I guess you're gonna get yer ass kicked today" mentality.
How cum I don't hear the ring ding no more? Nothing on God's earth sounded like a pack of ravenous 125cc Pros hauling ass towards the first turn... like killer bees from hell I tell ya. I miss privateers hanging it all out like Steve Wise did in 1976 to beat the top riders on way better bikes than he had.
Time waits for no man, but I still have my memories, and they can't take that away from me.
