So after my brother and his freinds were talking trash about my old school 1987 CR250, I thought I would call him out and race them on it. Oh the jokes were flyin, especially when I geared up in some old team honda JT gear. They let me drop down a class since my bike was nearly 25 yrs old and race the quick local B class on my 87' CR250. Two holeshots, two moto wins, and my friggn brother finally with his MOUTH SHUT lol! Actually I was suprised it did so good on the start against all those new 450's, its a loamy uphill start.
Had to run the DB #6 of course!
Anyone else into the RJ, DB, Wardy era of mid/late 1980's bikes? Post some pics if you are! I wish the vintage racing would start having a class for these...maybe they do?
Anyways its my first vital post getting ready for SX trash talk, so I thought it should be a good one!

Awesome photo. You HAVE to have some video of that. we want to see!
Good job. This points out what I have been saying about how far backwards we have gone in a decade in the name of marketing. If everyone wanted a faster bike than a 250, they already had it only it was faster and lighter than what they have now in a 450. So where has all this "new tech" taken us? Knock off a few HP, put a 26 ounce flywheel weight and 31 pounds of lead up around the gas tank and you just made your CR500 into a modern miracle. Oh yeah, and I forgot, add 157 moving parts to the intake.
?
That's priceless! What a classic picture to see. You can't miss those 80's Honda radiator shrouds. I always thought they made the CR's look intimidating back then.
It's amazing what a long lasting and fast bike you can have as long as you buy a Yamaha or KTM, or get one a few years old from one of the other companies!
Thanks,
Jim
Thanks for sharing.

Anyone else have a late 80's bike they fixed up?
MXR we are at about 5000 ASL
I think most of the older guys here just creamed in their pants!
Word of warning......this place can talk the trash talk better than any other place online for sure! A ton of couch jockey's that haven't rode anything since their last trail ride in 83' on a used Yamaha IT 175.
There are a bunch of really good dudes here as well. You'll learn which ones to "tune out"....and which ones to actually listen to and shoot the shit about MX.
Glad to see you here Show!!
It just goes to show at local level, racing is far more about the rider than the new expensive highly marketed equipment.
They would not want it to get out that a $900 24 year old Honda just opened up a can of "whoop ass" on their new $9000 product.
Those '87 Hondas were one, if not the best lines of MX bikes in a model year.
Thanks for a cool story and pic!
Post a reply to: Can a 24 year old bike be competitive against a full gate of new 450's? Check out this first corner pic! Old school is back, post some late 1980's era bike pics!
