Calling for the removal of Vince Friese

7/27/2012 12:37 PM

I have been watching the havoc that Vince Friese has caused in the sport of SX/MX since the 2009 season and I am now thinking to myself how long is the AMA and FELD going to let this happen? Are they just going to continue to let him hurt riders on the track until someone is either paralyzed or killed?

I am 100% for aggressive riding, but when your goal is to put another rider on the ground that is not an aggressive that is assault. and as far as the judicial system is concerned it would be considered "assault with a deadly weapon." Vince Friese is honestly putting every other rider on the track at risk, I think it is about time an authority put a top to it. If this was a one time incident i could understand, but is continually racing to put his competition on the ground is taking it to far. To take it one step further he is currently being investigated by the San Bernardino Sheriffs Department for his actions at the 2012 2-Stroke National at Glen Helen where he broke the jaw of a member of Micheal Lieb's crew. I have put together a list of his recent indiscretion:

Jason Thomas (2011 Phoenix SX)
Weston Peick (2012 Washougal national) Resulted in a $500 fine
Kevin Windam (2011 Monster Cup)
Michael Lieb (2012 2-stroke National) Currently under investigation by San Bernardino Sheriffs department
Jake Wiemer (2010 Colorado National
Bobby Kinery (2011 Seattle SX) Resulted in a 1 race suspension for Friese
Daniel Blair (2009 Alanta SX)
Matt Boni (2011 Dallas) career ending injury

I know there are quiet a few Vince Friese incedents that i missed so if you have a story, photo, or video please share. An if anyone knows why Moto Conpects continues to hire him I would love to hear. Thanks

I second the motion. The guy is a hazard on and off the track.

I second the motion. The sport is better off without him

Since 1981 I have watched nearly every supercross, summercross, motocross, arenacross, enduro cross that has been aired. every rider in the top 20 has taken guys out intentionally. You can find pictures of any rider you want to name in todays top 20 guilty of it. If you let the riders police themselves it will all work out in the end, and make for a much better race. And Ryno prefers this way.

With that said I do think there should be an eye kept on repedative offenders.

SPODEBOY has repented.

We really don't need malicious people like that on the track!

I think fines should be put in place. Dont wait until the fifth or sixth incident.

Start it early and make the fines progressive.

I truly think that retalitation is a part of the sport and should be allowed to an extent. But when you are doing it on a regular basis for no reason then it needs to be policed by someone other then the riders.

But as with any rule or guideline the AMA or other sanctioning body will have gray areas and find ways to screw it all up.

pretty much when u target someone in practice, i pretty much draw the line at douchebag right there.

i.e. rv/lawrence or vf59/weston type bs.

that isn't good racing when someone is cutting the track or cross jumping or plowing it in on you in practice.

Please tell me you are not trying to compare Vince Friese to Kevin Windham? If you know anyone racing SX go ask them what they think..

Ill agree there is a good portion of riders that have intentionally taken another rider to the ground, but I can only think of 1 that does it every time he has the opportunity.. VF59

Let Weston handle it , oh right ...........Weston did handle it. I dont think Friese will mess with him again.

One thing that the AMA/Feld/MX Sports can't control is what happens on practice days or events outside of their realm. Some of the things that are mentioned here fall into that category.

7/27/2012 1:54 PM

I second every bit about this. I LOVE aggression which is why I love watching the 250's more than the 450's... but there is definitely a line that Vince consistently crosses, crosses by miles.

The sport would be a lot better without him.

I am sure an anonymous post on the Internet is what will really push the AMA to finally act.

7/27/2012 2:03 PM

Oh stop it.

They may not be able to control it but they can react to it. Section 1.1 of the rules says

"All licenses are issued at the sole discretion of AMA Pro Racing and may be revoked with or without cause"

Essentially, they can do as they please. It is their show you are there at their discretion. I doubt they they would do anything to someone who pummeled him on a practice day but they could. If it was that big of a deal to the other riders, they would have dealt with it by now.

if you call weston retaliating and then getting fined $500 because he got so frustrated with vince....vince pulled him to his dirtbag level. yeah that worked out.

if i was weston, i woulda made it worth the $500 fine and pile drived him in the pits as a bonus.

You make him out to be the boogie man or the nightstalker- "watch out, he'll get you when you're sleeping or practicing".

The only people who should call for the removal of a pro racer should be other pros, or their team managers (which Experts_Exchange may very well be).

7/27/2012 2:50 PM

Wasn't it the Houston SX where Friese got parked in the left hander before the finish jump? When he re-entered the track he dragged a Tuff Block into the middle of the track and took out Moss (i think it was Moss).

Revoke his license for a year, honestly the guy has started so much crap and been in so many dust ups its getting to hard to ignore. Ama needs to do it BEFORE the riders do and it ends up badly. You can get away with being an ass hat every now and then but if you continue your number will be up.

Honestly after the amount of injuries we have the last thing we need is some one being reckless to the point that VF is.
