I ride a yz 250 because thats what I am fastest on and I started on 2 strokes 30+ years ago. I have yet to ride a 450 that I liked so I just bought a 2015 250 sx. How I would ever be faster on a pos heavy turd is beyond me even with my 30 years of riding. Your logic makes no sense.
After 30 years on a 2 stroke it might take more then a few rides to adapt. Old people have a harder time with change. Lol

I rode a CRF450 once as I wanted to see what all the four stroke hype was all about. Now no offense to four stroke lovers, but the bike just bored the hell out of me. Maybe is was the broad torque curve and linear power, but I just didn't enjoy riding it. I've raced 250 2t most of my life with a decent amount of 125 thrown in. I did race a YZ490 several times in 1985 and while that bike was a pig too, the power was anything but boring. I guess I was born to ride a smoker, oh, and I turned A in 1986.
Now I'm just older, but I do still have some of my remaining skills.

I have both and switch back and fourth on a regular basis. I am from the 4-stroke era so it took a couple months to learn how to make the 2-stroke go. Now that I can ride them both equally well my conclusion is, anyone will be faster on a 4-stroke. 4-strokes allow things that aren't possible on a 2-stroke. The 2-stroke upped my skill level and took a good bit of effort to learn to do what I wanted with it but that just made me even quicker on the 450. Nobody will ever be faster on a 2-stroke than a modern 4-stroke. If they say they are I will call them a lie to their face.

-If you care about getting every last bit of performance/result out of your racing I wouldn't choose a 2-stroke as my most lethal weapon. You're giving up too much of an advantage to the 4-stroke competition.

- If the fun matters more than the result, 2-stroke all the way!

Just my opinion. If you say you are faster on a 2013 yz250 than you are on a 2013 YZF450 I'd say you are lying. Period.
You are correct Darryl, some people just don't want to admit it.

OP, there's nothing more reliable than a 450 four stroke but if you aren't racing seriously anymore and just want a fun bike, then consider the two stroke.

Well, you can get the same exact power characteristics out of a 2 you can a 4. Only diff. will be the 2 is lighter, less cc, costs less to begin with, and costs less to up keep. Maintenance is close on price, except the 4 requires mucho bucks on rebuild, which is actually part of maintenance.

I've got a 2011 YZ250 w/5 hours for sale. Suspension is re-valved, it has a 250F swingarm and linkage, Raptor pegs, Renthal 997 bars, ASV levers, C-line carbon pipe guard, restyled plastic, FMF silencer, new tires and sprockets, and extra wheels (black). Comes with all original parts too- wheels, swingarm, etc.

I'm run the same lap times on the 250 as the 450F. The 250 makes up the time coming into corners.

yeah so many people just dont get that eh? I get sick of the bike bashing in here, but some people have so much hatred towards some makes, especially Honda yet Hondas are the most popular sales wise ! lol

......and you have a Cobra too. Sold mine about 10 years ago. What breed is yours. I had a Classic Roadsters with a 393W stroker and a Tremec 5 spd. I miss it, but then again I don't. Way too often worried about idiots keying it or stupid shit like that.

You gotta admire the 2-stroke taliban. They will never admit or give in, even when faced with overwhelming facts and evidence..lol

"How could I be any faster on a big fat heavy turd????"... that's not what Bubba was saying in 2005.

Everett-Morrison body and chassis w/ Vette suspension. Now days it has an all aluminum 430 sm blk, Ti rods and valves, roller cam, drysump, injected... it's a retired track car. Also using a T56 Magnum now. It mostly just sits... kinda lost interest after switching it from a track car to a "street" car. Now all I do is moto 4 days a week.

Laughing You could tell the 2-stroke was holding him back when he made the switch and dominated outdoors in 2006. Oh, wait.

They know everything and whats best for you.

Just ask them.

Jeesh. They are all DIRT BIKES.

I went from a 450f to a 250f, and except for some abrupt steep jumps right out of corners, I could run the same lap times on the 250f. I would probably be the same speed on a 250 2 stroke. At anything less than true upper intermediate to expert status, rider skill is almost EVERYTHING.

Stop arguing about 2 vs. 4, have fun on whatever you ride, and be glad we have a choice!

Hey everyone, this is my first post here. Last week I detonated my CRF450 so badly at the local practice track I ended up with a hole the size of a baseball in the bottom of the motor. Seeing as buying a new motor would cost more than the bike is worth (it's a 2008) I am in the hunt for a YZ250. Anyone gone back to the two-stroke after riding the 450 for years? I am a 26 year old A rider and seem to have a rough time keeping the fours running, so I figured I would go to something that doesn't require the same level of maintenance. However, I haven't run a two-stroke in about 10 years so I am a little hesitant based on the differences in the riding styles. Anyone have luck with this sort of transition?
detonation refers to spark, it sounds like you "grenaded" your bottom end, thats from plugging it up
cases don't just explode because.
2 strokes have less moving parts to go wrong.
simply cost..
many pros I work with practice now on 2 strokes and just race the 4.s.
