Holy crap, check out the ash tray. He's quitting on the wrong kind of smoking!

was the 2001 motor that much better than the 2004? I am looking for a 250 project soon.

I don't think so. If you're gonna switch motors, I think you're better off going pre-98 or so before they switched to a case-reed design. The early-mid 90s hondas had really good power from what I remember (I don't remember much though, I was like 10 and cared about very little other than 85s).

The switch to case reed engine was done with 2002 and up.

Oh ok, thanks. Many my memory is fading fast, I thought that was much earlier than that.

So yes, a 2001 would be better.

MX Bonz did basically the same swap putting a 96 engine in a 2002 chassis. It's not a straightforward swap. It requires some "engineering" including a custom headstay, relieving the back of the cases for the shock, using 2001 radiators, getting the ignition and carb sorted out, and some pipe/silencer mods.

00-01 are what you want. 99 was also strong, 00 was stronger. 02-07 are the sucky case reed designs that were a huge step backwards.

na..i had a 2000 which is pretty much the same thing and i have an 05 now.

a kehin pwk on the case reed motor is plenty good

dnt get me wrong..the 01 motor is better but not much. not enough to make it worth it to swap..

all this 00-01 talk, but... the 01 had the Mikuni TMX, which is the weak point. it's 00.

On the MX Bonz swap, you use his headstays, then slot the front motor mounts about 1/8"-1/4" No need to relieve the cases unless youre a bigger guy using a heavier spring.

99 is the best cyl.

01 radiators.

05+ forks.

Best two-stroke Honda you can build.

I've ridden MX Bonz's personal bike. It's a lot better than an 02-3 RC valve bike.
