Good good question. I raced yesterday and heard they watered so much that the facility was down to there fire reserve. They over watered for sure.

I'd rather see all the golf courses turned into MX tracks, that would make us happy !

At Pala they dug a well, which is really, really smart for many reasons.
And yes, if anyone complains about the water usage, they need to close down some golf courses first. Just sayin'

It is supposed to be a rainy fall and winter this year. We have already had rain this summer when we don't usually get it. Not really sure why you are thinking the drought is going to change anything? The tracks are businesses and they pay for their water, or have wells. It's not like the water has gone away...... As usual, the media makes everything see so doom and gloom.

The courses I play in Long Beach use reclaimed water. Closing them down would mean more water goes into the ocean. I think most LA County courses use reclaimed water.

For Central and Southern Cal, the rain needs to be in the Sierras and the Rockies. There are lots of wells in the LA Basin which does rely on local rainfall. So much of it runs off to the ocean but the majority of the ground water comes from the local mountains. Rain in downtown LA doesn't really help.

I don't know where the well was on the property. I do know they had one. My understanding is that they pumped water from the well to fill the pond, then used the water from the pond to water the track. I'm not sure, but I believe the pond was man made as well. Competition Park did the same thing. It's been a long time since I heard this so I may not have all of the facts straight.

My comment about closing golf courses just comes from the fact that San Diego has like 497,000 baseball, soccer fields, tennis courts, etc..., and zero MX tracks except those on Indian reservations. So there better not be complaints about resource usage.
